Holiday Inn SHANGHAI DOWNTOWN

No complaints whatsoever! The facility is very nice. The location is just what is advertised. The people at the front desk speak very good English and still allowed me to practice my Chinses... I ate outside the hotel simply because there were so many interesting options... I'd definitely stay here again...

お風呂はあまりきれいではなかった。夜中に上の部屋のドアを叩く音がずっと続いた。　汽車も地下鉄も空港行きのバスも近いので便利です。

Good hotel at a great location, one block from the main Shanghai railway station. Near to all downtown locations, easily accessible by subway or taxi. Clean and well appointed.

上海駅周辺は、雰囲気がよくない。 ２００９年８月時点では、ホテル周辺の歩道や道路の多くで改修工事中であり、 徒歩（スーツケースを持っての）での移動には、かなり苦労した。

上海駅周辺は、全般的に雰囲気がよくない。東京でいうと、御徒町や上野のようなかんじ。 加えて、道路工事中のところが多く（２００９年８、９月時点）徒歩でのアクセスは苦労する。 ホテル自体は、他のホリディインと同等だと思う。値段なり、星数同等に設備、サービスはOK。

This hotel exists in two buildings and you can not get from one to the other. So if you want some amenities in the building you are not living in, you can not easily get to them. The hotels are walled off from the rest of the world because the neighborhood is miserable. It is the usual criminal element one often finds around train stations in poorer countries. You get to see the unfortunate people who are NOT sharing in the Chinese economic miracle. We did not feel safe walking there. The hotels are close to Metro connections, however the entries to the Metro near the hotels smell like urine and chickens. Watch where you step! IT seems that not a single cab driver in Shanghai knows where these hotels are. Luckily one of us speaks Mandarin and we were able to describe the location. There are at least two KFCs in walking distance. Be careful. We had to scare off a thug who was threatening a handicapped beggar child to whom we had given some change. That was pretty disgusting. They were renovating my building so there was a lot of grinding noise during the day. Also, one morning i woke up to find the hall outside my room was full of acetone fumes. We gagged and ran for the elevator. (We complained and they blew out the hall fairly quickly.) When we arrived, the staff stood inside the doors watching us unpack our heavy bags. No one attempted to help. When we finally got to our building, the staff was unsure of the location of the elevator. The Chinese/American breakfast is okay; they supply all-you-can-drink espresso. The room was standard size and shape with standard robes and slippers. Good maid service. pay by the minute wired Internet up to 100 yuan/day.
