The Beloved Hotel Playa Mujeres by Excellence - All Inclusive Family Friendly

I absolutely loved La Amada. I was curious to see how the hotel would compare to the website descriptions, web reviews and photos. First of all, the resort looks exactly like the photos on the website - including that there are usually not many people around! I considered that a plus. When my boyfriend and I arrived early in the week, the resort was about 50% occupancy, which we came to enjoy. Toward the weekend the place filled up more, especially with more families. It is beautiful. Everything is comfortable and we never tired of anything. The rooms are gorgeous and clean, comfortable bed, nice amenities. The beach is private - we spent most of our days on a bed on the beach, enjoying frozen drinks and chips and guacamole from the friendly staff. Definitely get the all inclusive plan. Our favorite restaurant was Isla Grill near the beach. Great food, wonderful service. We liked getting sushi at the Lupita Lounge before dinner. Wish Isla Grill stayed open later, though. Have to repeat what many other people have said - get a spa treatment and the Agua Viva. We booked 30 minute massages (which were fantastic); with any spa treatment you receive the hour-long Agua Viva treatment. It's hard to describe, but is essentially a series of saunas and water massages - very relaxing and fun with a partner especially. It's certainly a place for couples - though many people brought their young kids, babies mostly. The resort is couple-oriented: more beach beds than chairs, tables for two at the restaurants, and king bed suites. The bathrooms are worth mentioning: very open and not much privacy - so hope you're comfortable! We flew in a day earlier than originally planned, so ended up in a junior suite the first night, and then the 2-floor casita for 5 more nights. The casita was more private, had a great view of the ocean and its own private pool, however the junior suite isn't much of a downgrade - it's actually a bigger room than the casita. The rooms look exactly like they do in the website photos. Nothing bad to say about the place! It's a small, pretty quiet resort that's incredibly beautiful and relaxing. I think some people have said that beverage service is slow - sometimes you wait a while for a drink on the beach, but... you're on a beach! Try the Clementini. We did an evening trip to Isla Mujeres that I wouldn't really recommend. We went out in Cancun one night - to Cocobongo which is a definite must - but other than that just laid in the sun, ate a ton of delicious food and relaxed. If you need advice or help with anything, the concierges and really all the staff are incredibly helpful. The resort next door is related - the Excellence - and it looks nice, with a younger crowd. Loved it and can't wait to go back!

We got the downstair room w/ private pluge pool. It was perfect since the weather didn't allow us to get into the ocean the entire 5 days we were there (Jan 21st windy). I got 3 and 4 y/o and they just lived in the 3.5 ft. deep WARM pool. They got 3 public pools, but it felt cold while we were there. They didn't allow outside food and the hotel was no walking distance to anything local. They got 2-3 great restaurants there, food about $10/dish. We got the all inclusive package b/c we r big eaters so that was perfect. Kids loved the room service and mini-bar. With little kids, sometime harder to make it to the restaurant, esp. getting them out of the pool. The foods were great, seafood and fusion/contemp mexican meals (nicely decorated). We had to wait awhile to get our food on 3 seperate occasions at the restaurants (30 mins plus). The place was very beautiful, modern, safe and luxurious. There were securities patroling all the time and had to pass 2 security gates to reach the hotel, very exclusive. The staffs were friendly and helpful. We walked on the beach, played white soft sand, eat lots of Gourmet food, and swim in our private pool, got room service, and hubby drank lots of liquor. Wish I can go back.

I highly reccomend the La Amada for those looking for a romantic and relaxing trip. The spa was fantastic the food very good and the hotel was was outstanding on taking care of their guests. The only down side was that the hotel states that you were not to bring any outside food or drinks to the hotel. Since this was not an all inclusive trip the food and drinks were a little pricey.

La Amada means "the beloved", and that is how we felt the entire week of our stay. We chose the hotel because, on our internet map, it looked to be far enough away from the hub-bub of the 23-kilometer long main hotel zone, and accompanying shopping and restaurants - something we weren't interested in. The hotel is situated on a beautiful white sand beach. It has only 200 rooms,many of them junior suites or larger. We stayed in a junior suite with our adult son. (His girlfriend stayed in the next room - we are so proper!) The bedroom/living room was quite spacious, and opened up to a spacious balcony overlooking 2 beautiful pools and a garden area. There was also a hot tub attached to the suite. The washroom was huge - as large as some of the hotel rooms we have stayed at elsewhere. And the shower was amazing! There was also a walk-in closet. We did not take the all-inclusive meal plan, but breakfast was included in our room rate. The breakfast was nice. We spent a lot of our day on the beautiful beach under one of the many thatched roof umbrellas that spanned the beach,attended by one of the large and very friendly and competent staff, who constantly came around taking orders. We are not usually beach people, but this set-up was way too alluring! There are some tented cabanas on the beach and we thought about renting one for a day, but decided that the "free" thatched umbrellas were so nice that we wouldn't gain anything by sitting elsewhere. One "warning" about the beach - it gets a bit breezy in the later afternoon - maybe that is only this time of year. So, if you don't like breezes, you can sun from morning until 3, and then take a break! The resort staff is amazingly friendly and helpful, from the housekeeping staff to the beach staff! La Amada offers some very nice and unusual activites. It has a spectacular spa that has an "Agua Vita" area - all sorts of water treatments - too many to describe here..see the website. We did the "Agua Vita circuit" one day and were blown away by it. There is a very nice lounge where drinks and sushi are served and different musicians perform in the early evening every night. There are 3 restaurants - all very nice, and the kitchen staff and chefs are very helpful with special dietary needs. The property is abutted by another much larger resort that has loud music playing sometimes and the music wafts over to the La Amada. I liked hearing it, and it actually sort of made me miss not having more music and entertainment at the resort than it offered. So, we went into the Cancun hotel zone one night - and then were happy to return! One more thing - the concierges were outstanding. They helped us arrange for several outings (Chichen Itza, Isla Mujeres)and a restaurant, and the suggestions were always right on the mark. Reading this over, I am sure I sound like a shill! But, trust me, I am not - just a very satisfied customer!

Its a great Place to relax. Beautiful beach, that is cleaned every day if necessary, very nice spa, and spacious rooms. The hotel seems to be rather a place for couples and families since the focus is on creating a quite and relaxing atmosphere. For people looking for nightlife: its outside Cancun (25 min. drive), taxi costs between 20 and 25 $). The Hotel starts a All inclusive plan in Jan 2011, which should be considered since otherwise snacks and drinks and dinner really add up (5*prices paid in a 5*hotel:-)!!! We were traveling with our 9 months old daughter and recommend it 100%!

The hotel is far from the city of Cancun in a beautiful beach. We rented a car to get there from airport and go to park (XCARET) and Maya ruins (Tulum). The hotel room is very very nice with a big king bed and sleep sofa bed but we prefer to two queen beds. The continental breakfast is awesome (fresh and taste). Room service and restaurant food (dinner) is of first class.

I like this hotel. But location was very bad for us... We went out every day.(dhichen itza,shopping,scuba diving etc) I spent many money for taxi. You spend time at the hotel or if you borrow the rent-a-car,I think that this hotel is very wonderful.

Our stay was exceptionally relaxing. Just what we needed to get away from the city life. Very clean beach, clean pools, an excellent spa, great staff and an amazing room. This hotel is located away from the City and the hotel zone (where you get to do all the activities). So its quiter and is more suitable for people looking for a personal & relaxing experience. It's easy to get to the city as well. We got a taxi from the hotel for almost the full day to go around hotel zone and downtown cancun which cost us around $70 which is not bad considering the guy will wait for you everywhere you go. We did the jungle tour & swiming with the dolphins at wet n wild which were a lot of fun.

My experience at La Amada was everything I would hope for and more... The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming... The facilities were pristine, the location secluded and exclusive... We went on our first vacation to Mexico and no doubt would be returning to La Amada again in the future... We went out and did our own excursions and the only downside is that the hotel is rather far from the Cancun Hotel Strip ( Were all the restaurants are)but it was definitely worth it to slightly further... I would recommend this hotel if you are really looking to relax on a couples retreat, secluded beaches and excellent service...
