Nice place to stay when connecting in Munich . If they provide shuttle service, I would say it is a perfect hotel for a traveler via Munich.

Not Really a Three Star Hotel
The room was not ready when we checked in after 4:00pm. Not really clean. Not a warm, welcoming feeling to the room. On checking out, they tried to charge us $65+ for WiFi we never used in the room (good thing we only stayed one night). Rode the bus to and from the airport as others had recommended. Next time we travel to Munich, we will stay at the other hotel closer to the airport.

Novotel Munich
This is a very high class hotel, convenient to the airport. We took the bus, #635 from the terminal to the hotel and back. The hotel is located across the street from the bus stop. It costs 1.20 Euro per person each way. Our room was comfortable, clean and practical. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a final night stay prior to departing by air or to be away from downtown.. The breakfast buffet is way over price at 18 Euro, but on a par with other nice hotels. However, the dinner menu was reasonably priced. The S Bahn is within walking distance for a trip into downtown.

Take the S Bahn to Marienplatz which is in the heart of everything in downtown Munich. It's about a 40 minute trip. Within walking distance to the Glockenspiel, Hofbrau Haus and the Kaufhof department store. Other historical places are very near this area.

Short walk from hotel
To get to the Hotel hop off the train (S1/S8) at the Flughafen Besucherpark Station (Parking Station) - it's then only a 5minute walk to the hotel. This is quicker than going to the terminal and catching the shuttle bus back to the hotel. Directions are sign posted.

If you need to stay next to the airport you should choose Novetel. It is much much more cozy than Kempinski (your second option). The hotel's restaurant is OK, but way overpriced. Spend your money in Airbrau or EDEKA supermarket (both located inside the terminal after baggage claim). Overal Novotel is a good deal, but only for transit purpose. Not for turists.

Do not take taxi from the airport. Use the public transportation. The bus leaves from the front of the terminal 2 (next to the taxi stop), 10min bus ride costs 1.25 euro per person (one way). The bus stops in front of the Hotel.

You should have your own shuttle bus service to the airport that picks you up at the door. I packed my coat for the trip home to America and it was chilly standing on the corner so long.

Nice, modern, comfortable hotel. Well insulated (no airport noise) and well air conditioned. Convenient to Munich airport; take 635 bus at airport for a couple of Euros to bus stop at hotel; saves over expensive taxi ride.
