Sugar Palm Resort, Kata Beach

Hotel is in a great location from the beach. Staff was friendly was helped with whatever I requested. Good place to stay for the price. Pool / Fitness center left a little to be desired. But if you're just looking for a place to crash while you experience Thailand, this is perfect!

This hotel is a great pick for its value. We wanted a nice hotel that wasn't too pricey, and this is exactly that. It's located very close to the beach and is right in the middle of Kata's main restaurant and bar area. The rooms are nice and a good size, and the breakfast is decent. If I ever go back to Thailand, I would certainly stay there again.

Sugar Palm is in a great location of Kata, as soon as you are out of the hotel to your left and to your right are lots of bars /cafes /restaurants /massage etc. And immediately ahead of you (1 min walk max) is the beach right where the sunbeds are. The staff is helpful. The room service food was quite good. We got ripped off on the breakfast on our very first day - we were charged something like 300B per person and it was near the end of breadkfast so most of the food was running out and the chef who cooks eggs on the spot for you was not there - but they still charged us full price. Lots of Russians at that hotel - quite inconsiderate late at night singing and yelling down the passage ways. Very happy with the value for money and would stay again. If you are the fussy type you may not like it as much bc of minor details which could be better, but its not a 5 star and you get what you pay for which was more than fine for me.

OFF SEASONになるとかなり格安で宿泊できるのでお得です。KATA BEACHでは一番利便性の良い立地にあり、ホテルからビーチまでは100m位なので海には気軽に行くことができます。

It was a good experience at a very affordable price! We stayed at Sugar Palm Resort & Spa from 19th to 22nd July 2010. The room we booked was the one with pool access and you can jump straight into the pool right from your balcony. The only negative thing about pool access rooms is probably its low-level which brings in quite a bit of mosquitoes. We bought mosquito coils to burn everytime we're in the room just to ward off those mozzies. Mozzies aside, the resort is really worth the stay. There is the pool, sauna, spa, free wifi, internet surfing area with lounge, and very friendly hotel staffs. On top of that, the hotel provided luggage storeroom and shower facilities (complete with towels and foams) hence we could return to have a shower even after we check out of the hotel. A small gesture but a very thoughtful one, for people like us who have a late night flight to catch! Will definitely return here for more!

We arrived at the hotel after midnight and were kindly received by the receptionist. Our room was situated in the older wing of the hotel. It was big and well-equipped but the floor was not very clean (sandy) with two pair of dirty flip-flops for hotel guest use in the cupboard. When we mentioned this at the reception desk we immediately received well-ment apologies and were upgraded to the newer part of the hotel to a nicer room (that was clean). For the rest of the stay, we do not have any comments, as everything was perfect. Staff were friendly, breakfast was great and the room quiet and well air-conned. Around town (which is basically a gathering of tourist shops, bars and restaurants, did not see any resident houses) despite the tourist aspect you can still fairly enjoy yourself eating out (double price of Bangkok, but still affordable for us western tourists), shopping for fake clothes/goods and booking daytrips. It is worth to go to one of the booking offices to get a good price if you book two trips. We took daytrips to Koh Phi Phi (pretty but spoiled by the huge amounts of tourist visiting "The Beach" and the ugly tourist bars on Phi Phi Don, but with great scuba diving and monkeys on monkey beach) and to Koh Raya (much more quiet, idyllic island with snow-white sand and tropical atmosphere, better scuba-diving than around Koh Phi Phi and less tourists, god knows why!). For swimming and lounging on beach chairs, the beach at Kata is also very good (no scuba diving here). Take the opportunity to walk across the small stream at the end of the beach to reach the seafood restaurant for a great lunch with a splendid view!! The only thing annoying in Phuket was the taxi maffia, as it seems almost impossible to get a taxi at a fair price. We paid 750 baht to get to our hotel and 900 to get to the airport in a "limousine" taxi (we tried to book an ordinary cab, but they charge you similar prices for a ride in a less fancy car. Metered taxi's can be found at the airport, but we did not look for them as we arrived late at night and did not want to go through the trouble of avoiding the taxi rats at the airport to find the metered taxis.
