Rather nice
Friendly, caring staff, nice room. However, why is smoking allowed around the pool when it was directly outside my non-smoking room? The fumes were enough to make one gag.

The experience of an Italian couple
The Hotel is really in a good position.There is a pool, outdoor. The room that we have was in the old part. Nice but with no wiew at all (we look inside, in a 'cavedio')

Hotel staff was nice. We were able to check our luggage and pay for our luggage for free on their internet.

First Visit to San Fran
The Handlery was a nice hotel, nothing fancy and was fine for our stay. The location made it easy to walk to many of the popular tourists spots. My husband and I did a ton of walking from the hotel and visited Chinatown, Little Italy, Coit Tower, Lombard Street, Fisherman's Wharf and many places in between. There are great restaurants all around, but Union Square packed with tourists, so venture beyond the Square for a more local experience.

There are some great places near the Handlery: First Crush for flights, food and dessert. Millenium on Geary has phenomenal vegan fare and I'm not a vegan! Hyde Street Seafood House is also delish. As a special treat we went to the Top of the Mark for live music and martinis late night. The view of the city is amazing.

Good value for the location.
Room was very quiet and beds very comfortable. There were some cleaning issues...mold in the shower, remnants of child's birthday party were left in the room, dust on top of TV shelf. Concierge was not very friendly or helpful the first day we were there.

Only buy 1 day pass for cable car/trolley. It can be used over and over because no one looks at it. City Sightseeing tours are very nice especially Golden Gate Tour which takes you across the bridge.

My San Francisco Vacation
The hotel has great locations but the room was too small. I really enjoyed the trip.I took the grant tour of the city visit Yosemite Park, Fisherman Wharf, California Academy of Science Wine Country, Golden Bridge and the famous Park. The 6 days i spent in the city it was not enough.

do NOT rent a car! Parking is hard to find downtown and expensive!! Purchase the muni transportation pass. $18 for 3 days or $24 for 7 days. U can ride any bus, cable car, or street car unlimited. The transportatin system is great! U can get anywhere quickly! Cable car rides are $5 a pop and buses $2. Pays for itself and eveyone downtown uses the transportation.

Hotel has very good location, is very clean. My location in the hotel was very quiet. The staff were very friendly. Concierge was also helpful. The rooms are somewhat small but that's to be expected. Real downside is you have to pay $9.99 per day for internet access.
