Aqua Aloha Surf Waikiki

The Aloha Surf Hotel is in the process of upgrading the building & rooms and therefore their ammenities were fairly new, eg. flatscreen t.v. with cable channels, equiped with refrigerator, coffee maker & coffee, wallpapered & mirrored walls, neatly arranged with live plant. They provided very fresh fruits, tropical juices, coffee, muffins and free local newspaper daily. The lobby was neatly furnished with ample seating & large screen t.v for viewing. Parking is very limited but available, a three blocks walk to the beaches, many variety of restaurants to suit your taste including McDonalds etc., food markets, souvenior stores and shops to to meet your shopping needs, all walking distances. You can maintain your daily walks to the zoo and acquarium within a mile or two. Currently the ownership is opting sales on several units as condos and available for viewing.

The good? It's a few short blocks to the beach and away from (but relatively close to) the congested main thoroughfares. They provided me a clean room, high enough to be out of the street noise, and the staff was very friendly. They answered all of my questions about getting from Point A to Point B and even took my luggage up to my room when I arrived early and wanted to just take off to the beach. The bad? Limited on-site parking that was actually more expensive than the off-site parking that the staff told me about! I really didn't mind walking 4 blocks to get to my rental car though. Also there is a pool that no one used ... not that you needed one being that close to Waikiki Beach. I didn't have a wonderful view either, but again that's what the beach is for. Just walk there and you get all the views you want. Overall a good budget hotel.

The Aqua Aloha Surf hotel is located very central to most things in Waikiki. The beach is a quick three blocks away. There are many restaurants, bars, shops very close to the hotel. The room itself was very cute, but the workmanship was lacking. The i's weren't dotted and the t's weren't crossed. For the value however, it was very nice. The cleaning crew as well came knocking very early in the morning and were very persistent even when you asked them to come later. Our room did not have a privacy please sign...so every morning, even when we asked not to be disturbed until 10 am, the cleaning lady would knock at our door at 8, except for the one day that we weren't in the room and that day they decided to come at 4pm., ten minutes after we had stepped into the room to shower and change and run off to our next activity. The staff at the front desk however was very friendly and helpful, when we asked how to get to Pearl Harbor, they printed out step by step directions for us and gave us valuable hints about making sure our valuables were safe. Overall, I was very satisfied with my trip, there were the little annoyances, but for the price, the experience was great.

The Aloha Surf is a great location centrally located in waikiki and just a few blocks to the beach. We had a superior room which includes a small fridge, microwave, sink, plates and utensils, and a small lanai. The lanai didn't have a great view, but it was nice having the option to step outside. We did have some ants around the kitchen area, but it's hard not to have ants anywhere in hawaii. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for the value and location.

At our check in we found there were no smoking rooms due to a recent law in the state. This was disappointing but something we adjusted to and not the fault of the hotel. We also found however that there was a $15 a day parking fee for the 50, give or take, spaces for this 16 story hotel. The alternative was public parking several blocks away so we agreed to the fee. On Wednesday morning we were awakened by work crews in an adjoining room, hammering, drilling, etc. When we approached the front desk to find out how long this was to continue and see if we could move rooms the first response from the person behind the desk was to ask if we were complaining again about the lack of smoking rooms. We were not reassigned but the work crew start time was backed off to 9A.M. allowing us time in the morning to exit before it started. Due to the tension we did not approach the desk again until we were checking out.

The Aqua Aloha Surf is in a great location right next to a 24 hour grocery store and in the heart of Waikiki.

The Aloha Surf was comfortable, but not luxurious. The pool is a joke and we never used it. The coffee machine in the lobby made terrible coffee. Our room though was very clean and we had no complaints with it. It also had a small fridge and microwave which was nice. When in Hawaii though, you won't want to spend much time in your room when it's always so beautiful outside!

We were awakened on Monday morning at 9am by the sound of a Jackhammer on the floor above us, this continued until 3:30pm. We could not use our balcony due to the construction. The jackhammer was so loud that it tripped the air conditioning unit our several times and we had to shout to make ourselves heard. The jackhammer was back on the Friday although Tuesday through Thursday was only a hand hammer. We were not offered an alternative room away from the construction. The bathrooms are tiny with no extractor fan. The Television channel selection is limited with no pay-per view movie option. The continental breakfast was of a very poor standard and limited selection. The Hotel has no Bar facilities which we knew about but we did not know of their policy of banning alcohol at the poolside and on the patio! So much for relaxing by the pool with a beer!!! I would not stay at this hotel again if you paid me.
