Leave the bustling streets of Prague behind as you immerse yourself in the beautiful Czech countryside, where gorgeous stone castles sit on tree-covered hillsides. Visit Konopiste Castle to stroll through the property’s idyllic gardens, and stop by Karlstejn Castle to see the magnificent crown jewels.

Your adventure begins when you are picked up from your hotel and transported to Konopiste Castle, a three-storey chateau that sits on the edge of a crescent-shaped lake. The bright white façade and red-tiled roof juxtapose greatly against the dense green foliage that surrounds the estate. Walk inside and listen as your guide details the castle’s storied history, as it was once the home to Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The gardens are well-manicured and covered with colourful flowers and stunning statues, so be sure to check them out before you leave.

Next, take a tour of Karlstejn Castle, a large Gothic structure founded in 1348 by Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia. Its imposing hillside location makes it visible from miles around. Inside you can visit the crown jewels of the Holy Roman Empire, where extravagant crowns, lances, and swords are on display.

Both castles were very interesting from a historical perspective. Our guide Martin was very knowledgeable and provided information along the way as well as about each location. It was really nice to get out of Prague and see the countryside too.Tours in each location were very detailed.

The castle tours were nice as was our guide. On the way to the castles, he did give us some local history. Beware though, lunch is NOT included. I gave this 3 stars because really it's just transportation to each castle. Once there, you are given over to the castle guides.
