From Madrid’s oldest taverns to its modern hip hangouts, make like a local and eat your way through the city’s best tapas dishes. From cheese and olives, to potato croquettes and local beer, this is your chance to eat like a local – Madrid style!

Your tapas adventure begins in Plaza de la Villa, the old main square in central Madrid. After a brief introduction to the city and its tapas credentials, head towards Mercado de San Miguel, the first gourmet market in all of Spain. Here you will try traditional vermouth and taste some of Spain’s most succulent olives.

Next up – cheese! Spain is a well-known cheese producing nation and you will have the chance to try some delicious Spanish cheese, along with a glass of wine at one of the best cheese stalls in the market.

From the market, head to the pulsating barrio of La Latina to explore its narrow lanes and fascinating history. This neighbourhood is ultra trendy right now and is popular with locals for its vibrant food and drink scene. Visit a tiny, off the beaten track restaurant that is well known for traditional tapas dishes - with a fusion twist. This tiny spot only has 6 tables so it’s always busy and it has a great atmosphere!

Head back to the oldest part of Madrid, learning about the city’s history and food culture as you walk. Your next stop, right in the heart of Plaza Mayor, is to try the iconic bocadillo de calamares, the famous sandwich of the city. To wash it down, try some local beer.

Does it get much better than potato croquettes! The perfect snack at any time of day and with so many different flavours to choose from, croquettes are the best! Try some of Madrid’s most famous croquettes at a heritage tavern that was originally built in 1860 and only specialises in these special potato treats.

After that, cross Puerta del Sol, one of the most iconic spots of Madrid, and finish your tapas adventure with a local dessert and sweet wine in yet another historic location.

Great tour, great food and drink but most of all Alfonso our guide took us to all the interesting spots in and around the Plaza Mayor region of Madrid. He is local and very knowledgeable regarding historical sites and food. I highly recommend.

A great tour starts with a great guide! Daniela was the single most impressive guide we have ever had on an excursion. Knowledgeable, witty, and a true people person, she made our tour more than just some tapas pit stops. First, we were fortunate to book at the end of the shoulder season so we had kind of a VIP experience. It was just us and the guide. This made our transition from place to place very smooth and effortless. The places chosen for the tour were eclectic and some of them we would not have probably visited on our own. I guess that’s why tours are so good. Will highly recommend this tour and most of all this tour guide. Thanks again Urban and your representative for a great tour!

Daniela our tour guide was exceptional. Fun , engaging , informative. Took pleasure in what she was doing....great sense of humor. I learnt a lot from her...she has interesting stories outside the realm of food. I take food tours in every city...she made us try dishes i had never had before. This tour is a MUST TAKE. .
