We have stayed several times before at the Grand but this time the experience was not as good. In the bathroom there was only one robe. There was no complimentary water in the room. The Cadbury chocolate bars have been replaced by generic biscuits. The service in Madelaines bar was very slow and chaotic. There used to be local Birmingham beers available in the bar. All of these are small things but it’s no longer the great experience you’d expect from the Grand Hotel in Birmingham. All the little Birmingham specific and other extra touches that made staying there really special have gone. I hope it’s a blip and not a trend toward becoming just another average hotel.

Compared to my last visit, this experience was absolutely exceptional—this is the standard we were used to, and they are back! Every room was immaculate and beautifully presented. The team went above and beyond, surprising us with a bottle of champagne to kick off the celebrations. A huge shout-out to Matthew in the Madeline Bar—his attentiveness and professionalism were second to none. He made us feel truly special and ensured everything was perfect. The entire staff deserves recognition for their friendliness, efficiency, and genuine care. From check-in to dining, every interaction was flawless. We will definitely be back soon. Keep up the amazing work—you’ve set the bar high again!

Fantastic Hotel. Great location, Lovely room. A great Bar, but didn’t stay in there long as it was just way too expensive. Lovely staff. Such a shame about the guest prices, I can’t comment on the Breakfast, again it was extortionately priced, but no issue as there are amazing local dining options all within easy walking distance!! Room Service is questionable? We tried getting food / snacks later on but “the kitchen was closed”? Would be so easy for a Hotel like this to offer an all night cold sandwich menu. A tip for visitors would be to eat early as unless you want an over the counter Kebab, getting food later on (after 9PM) seems to be a common problem anywhere in Birmingham city centre. Despite the negatives, we’d definitely stay again. Birmingham city centre is fantastic!!
