We booked a stay with a hotel affiliated with the Meliá group. Due to a mixup on the Meliá website, I booked this hotel instead of the one originally intended (Sol Don Pablo).
Upon arrival, we realised this was not the hotel we had been conversing with. The rooms are not well maintained and overall the hotel was unsuitable for our kids.
We paid for the full stay (8 nights) upon arrival but decided to check out the next day soon after. I was assured by front-of-house that I would only be charged for the 1st night if checking out early. The hotel needed Expedia to confirm early checkout.
I spoke to an Expedia representative on the day of of arrival, who conversed with the hotel. Early checkout and refund of the remaining balance was agreed. However, after multiple confirmations (including on the day of checkout by front-of-house) that the penalty was 1 nights stay, the hotel has only approved a refund of 6 nights. We checked out on the 2nd day before 12, and I am unsure why we have been charged for 2 nights.
Front-of-house staff were great, although the hotel wasn’t for us. Expedia have informed me they have limited power because payment was direct with the property. Overall, a frustrating experience.
