Welcome to the jungle, where you can discover wildlife, towering trees, breathtaking rainforest scenery, and a true return to nature. ''The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” (Psalms 19:1).
Bukit Lawang is a charming riverside village located about 86 km northwest of Medan in North Sumatra, Indonesia. It is renowned as home to the largest sanctuary for the critically endangered Sumatran orangutan and serves as the main eastern gateway to Mount Leuser National Park.
Bukit Lawang is a wonderful destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. Whether you are a budget backpacker or a well-off traveller, Orangutan Trip invites you to enjoy one of Sumatra’s most unforgettable experiences. The highlight of any visit is JUNGLE TREKKING, where you may encounter wild orangutans, monkeys, and a rich variety of birds in their natural habitat. Orangutans can leap impressive distances through the forest canopy, helping them avoid predators such as tigers, bears, and snakes.
Airport pickup and hostel accommodation are included. We can collect you from the airport before 8:00 PM on the day before your trek; the journey to Bukit Lawang takes approximately four hours. You will spend your first night resting at our hostel, and after breakfast the following morning, your jungle adventure begins. Hotel pickups according to the schedule are also available.
During the trek, you will hike along scenic jungle trails, cool off in crystal-clear mountain streams, swim in the Bukit Lawang River, savour freshly prepared local meals, and spend the night camping in the heart of the rainforest. The return journey is a memorable ride by traditional river taxi.
Nothing lasts forever, so let us share this extraordinary experience with fellow travellers. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the rainforest and create memories and friendships that will last a lifetime, while enjoying plenty of hiking, wildlife observation, swimming, and joyful moments along the way.
Guests are also welcome to stay an additional night at our hostel, Backpacker Lodge, after the trek. Airport drop-offs and transfers to Berastagi, Lake Toba, and other destinations throughout Sumatra can be arranged upon request.
Last but not least, thank you for booking our jungle trek and the rest of your bill will go through for charity to visit orphans and widows in thier distress “Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translated in Greek is called Dorcas); this woman was abounding with deeds of kindness and charity which she continually did.” (Acts 9:36).
