What you can expect
Deep within Santa Claus Forest, on the edge of Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, a shy Forest Elf named Tuikku has hidden treasures for families ready to search for them.
Tuikku loves children, but she is far too shy to meet them herself. Instead, she plays with them in her own special way: hiding treasures, leaving clues and creating little tasks throughout the forest. You won't physically meet Tuikku during the treasure hunt, but her presence can be felt throughout the adventure.
After a short drive from Rovaniemi, every child receives a lantern and your guide elf introduces Tuikku's storey before leading you into Santa Claus Forest.
Each family has 8 hidden treasures of their own to discover, with different hiding places for each family. The adventure is meant to be exciting, not frustrating: every family can find all 8 treasures if they wish, and your guide elf will help whenever needed.
After completing Tuikku's treasure hunt, every child receives their own Treasure Hunt Certificate as a memory of their adventure in Santa Claus Forest. If no children are participating, each adult receives a certificate instead.
Santa Claus Forest is a unique place where every tree has been dedicated to someone from somewhere around the world. Tuikku's clues lead you from one discovery to the next among these Christmas trees.
This experience has been created especially for children and families. After booking, we ask for information about the participating children and your preferred language, so we can do our best to adapt the adventure to their ages and prepare Tuikku's treasure clues in your chosen language whenever possible.
English guiding is available throughout the season. From October to March, guiding is also available in Spanish, French, Italian and Greek, subject to guide availability.
The treasure hunt eventually leads to a traditional Finnish wilderness shelter and peaceful meadow. Gather around a child-friendly fireplace for a Finnish BBQ dinner with meat or vegetarian options and warm Finnish glögi. Finish with Leipäjuusto (Finnish squeaky cheese) and homemade cloudberry jam.
The departure time is planned to enjoy as much of Lapland's darkness as possible while remaining suitable for families with children. The open meadow is also a good place to watch the northern sky. On a clear evening, if conditions are right, you may even see the Northern Lights.
This is not an Aurora hunting tour and Northern Lights can never be guaranteed — they are simply a wonderful bonus.
The experience is limited to a maximum of 16 guests, but groups are usually much smaller — often just one or two families sharing the adventure. Although designed especially for families with children, couples and groups of adults are also very welcome.
Whether the forest is covered in snow or surrounded by the colours of the snow-free season, Tuikku's treasure hunt has its own kind of magic.
Christmas doesn't always need snow. Sometimes, Christmas is simply a feeling.
