Stop over on the Cleveland Way

Pros: The pub is great - they had some good beers on and the food was really tasty.
Location: I think Grosmont is nearby for getting back on the Coast to Coast walk, and its on the Esk Valley service to Whitby or Middlesburgh.
I did a section of the Cleveland Way finishing in Kildale and struggled to find accommodation in the village. Trains leaving Kildale stop in villages along the valley, and the Arncliffe Arms is less than a five minute walk from Glaisdale (about 20 minutes on the train). The pub itself had great beers and food, and is also popular with coast to coast walkers. I had the single room, which always tend to be a bit on the small side but the water was hot, the sheets was clean and the brekfast was tasty and filling - great value for money, and what more can you ask for when you're on the road?

Good for an overnight stay

Pros: There is a good selection of pub food and a changing menu and the breakfast is adequate. They will make a packed lunch. Room had a nice view
Cons: Some more attention to detail would improve things (for example checking lights in rooms). Personally, the music was not to my taste!
Location: Near to long distance footpaths and the rail station (NYMR and other services). Eskdale theatre plays in the village (Educating Rita this year).
We stayed at the Arncliffe as part of our summer holiday. It is a good place for an overnight or two and a good starting point for Eskdale and the nearby coast. Good for walkers or tourists. It is a village pub and combines this with (during our stay) tourists from several countries exploring the area.
