Restaurant staff were lovely— so were reception staff. The parking was convenient and free. However, it was a long walk to my room, up three flights of stairs, with a heavy bag, and I am elderly. There was no lift. The room (in the attic) was cold and the warm air radiator set the alarm off when turned on! So, I had to turn it off. It was very cold.

I was amazed by the service of a gentleman called Dave. I drove from London to attend a wedding and was going to spent 2 nights at this hotel. I got delayed by roadworks on A406 and M3. I called to ask whether my son could access my room. He had driven in 3 hours earlier with my sister. Dave kindly obliged and I really appreciated that. In addition he was very gracious and kind whe we finally arrived after midnight. The hotel was more than satisfactory for what we required. Parking was adequate. There was a good English breakfast in the morning and I was delighted to discover a rail station a short walk away.

This hotel is tired. The rooms are in desperate need of a refurb, from iron burn marks on the carpet to old mattresses. The breakfast was ok and staff are really nice, but that doesn’t make up for the facts that the rooms are poor.

The staff 100%. Breakfast and other meals good. I stayed in Room 23 and found it to be clean and well presented, the exception being the venetian blinds, which didn't seem to have reveived attention for some time. There was a problem with the shower mixer, which, as I was only staying for two nights, I only reported on my departure. Room 23 is immediately adjacent to a first floor public terrace; this didn't bother me as it was closed for access and the weather was inclement, but it would be problematic when an event was taking place in good weather. Fairly happy overall, and I would return if I revisit Alton.

Be WARNED

Absolute worse hotel I have ever been too. Myself and 9 other guest including the grooms experienced cold showers the morning of the wedding. We therefore had no option but to proceed with showering in these circumstances as we would have been late for the wedding if not. Hotel manager was very unapologetic and compassionate to what we had experienced. To some degree mentioned what we had experienced was fine and the norm. To all potential customers I strongly warn against this hotel to avoid a similar experience

A good stay in a nice town.

We booked for its proximity to the Mid Hants railway station which is just around the corner . It was very convenient for the old high street and we will definetly visit again . A nice corner room gave us good light .We cannot comment on the restaurant as it does Sunday lunches not evening meals that day. Overall NO downsides on our single nights stay with convenient parking arrangements.

Located on Alton High Street within easy walk of local restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Modest accomodation at a reasonable price. Rooms are on the small side and very poorly soundproofed. Staff are friendly and helpful, parking is plentiful and free. Slightly sprawling layout so room 31 at the furthest point from reception had possibly the slowest WIFI I’ve ever encountered at any hotel. So slow I couldn’t even load Speedtest and even Google took almost a minute to appear. I gave up trying to read my emails or even logging into my emails. Non functional security lock on the door, no tissues, excellent in-room tea and biscuits, top marks for firm and soft bed options in the twin room (I of course chose both).

An excellent value hotel.

Young lady at reception was extremely helpful and cheery. Checked us in, then became the bar maid for our drinks, and happily gave us fresh milk and extra tea bags for our room, which was very comfortable.

Lovely stay with a little glitch

This is a quaint establishment located perfectly to public transportation and is an easy stroll to all of the nearby shops, groceries and pubs. The English breakfast was lovely and every single person on staff was friendly and engaging. My room faced the front of the hotel and offered a nice breeze. It was actually also very quiet for sleep. If my room were clean my rating would be all 5s. Spider webs, dust, other people’s hair all over the bathroom and the shower curtain needed a scrub or a toss.
