Our stay at South Congress Hotel in Austin was disappointing. We requested early check-in, but even the standard 3 p.m. check-in time wasn’t honored. Our room wasn’t ready until after 4, which threw off our plans. We had also asked for a rollaway bed, and it wasn’t in the room when we arrived.
The lobby wasn’t well maintained. There were dirty napkins and lemon wedges on the floor, and it didn’t look like anyone was keeping up with basic cleaning. The couches in the lobby were so worn they had tears in the leather. I tried calling room service twice with no answer, so I had to go downstairs just to place an order. One of the front desk staff members also wasn’t very friendly, which didn’t help the experience.
They did try to make up for the check-in issues by giving us three free drink tickets, which I appreciated, but it didn’t change the overall experience. The location was fine, but the room faced Congress Avenue and was loud. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice.
Overall, the hotel feels worn down for the price, and I wouldn’t stay here again.
