Professional and fantastic stay

Fantastic stay, all the staff incredibly professional and approachable. Really enjoyed the small touches, coming back from a long night to the curtains pulled and robes with slippers set out on the bed with chocolates. Lovely touch. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, is on the basis they should update the lift access - like many other hotels now requiring a valid hotel key card to scan and activate the lift, it’s a small detail that provides a little more reassurance especially for 2 females on a trip knowing only residents of the hotel can access room floors etc… and someone can’t just walk off the street.

Disappointing Stay

We recently stayed at the Fitzwilliam and unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations for a 5-star property. On arrival, our room was not ready at check-in. We were told we’d receive a call once it became available, but that call never came. When we returned around 5pm, we were informed our bags had been placed in the room, only to discover they had not as we spotted them still sitting in reception. This lack of communication was frustrating and disappointing. The only exception being Brian in the bar who was really pleasant. As an apology, we were given a voucher for two glasses of Prosecco, which felt like a token gesture rather than a genuine attempt to make up for the inconvenience. The room itself was uncomfortably hot – the air conditioning could not be adjusted, making it difficult to sleep. Adding to the discomfort, the noise at night made for a restless stay. While the hotel itself is attractive and has potential, the service and room experience were not at all reflective of a 5-star standard.

Overall fine. Our room was showing a bit of wear and tear. There were some mosaic tiles missing on the bathroom wall and early signs of mould on the bathroom ceiling. Some of the downlighting in the bathroom and room didn’t work which should have been picked up on a room check. Breakfast was OK but our coffee order was forgotten until we asked again about it. Front desk staff were very helpful.

Lost booking!

I was staying there after my daughter’s wedding. My friend checked me in. The room wasn’t ready at 4pm so the porter took the bags to the room. When I came back late to go to my room the receptionist couldn’t find my booking. After a massive disagreement she gave the key to 2 rooms that friends of mine were in. Eventually the night porter took the list of bookings. He saw my name and gave me a key and thankfully my bags were in the room. It was a terrible end to an amazing day. The manager was very apologetic in the morning but I don’t think I’d stay there again.
