Good stay, couple of functions on in the hotel but couldn’t hear them in our room. Room itself was nice, but very very warm. Has to sleep with windows open onto the busy road and used the fans that were all ready provided. Glad it was a February stay and not a summer stay.

Great value for money, and highly recommended! Fantastic architecture and history. Excellent staff - always polite, friendly and helpful. Spotlessly clean throughout. Great breakfast, which is cheaper if booked the day before. The only negative was the evening meals; very limited choice, only served in the bar area despite a beautiful dining room in the building. "Skin on" fries were thin oven chips. Perhaps a wider selection and the dining room are available at weekends?

Reception staff were welcoming. The hotel itself is a bit older BUT very well maintained and clean. Shower pressure was phenomenal! Comfortable bed. TV worked fine. Iron and kettle in the room. I would definitely stay again.

The building is beautiful and the location is very central. But the decoration is old fashioned and the quality of furnishings is just ok. The staff are WONDERFUL. We had upgraded to an executive room but we were at the back of the hotel overlooking a building site. There were stains on the furniture and the room decoration was very old fashioned. The staff were very helpful and moved us to another room that we were happy with.

Such a shame!

This is a great location! Very central and lots to do and see from this grand building. Amazing history and beautiful building which is why it is a shame that is has a few niggly points! The receptionist was friendly. I WOULD NOT advise staying for food. It was VERY basic, limited and not the best! Breakfast was lovely though! very well organised, lovely lady serving and warm in the room! My room was a bit of a maze to find but thats ok it meant it was quiet. Room was FREEZING cold when I arrived, I found a portable little heater in the cupboard which I turned on. It was an old portable so must be quite inefficient and took a long time to heat up. It was noisy so I had to turn off over night which meant it was freezing when I woke up and quite uncomfortable to shower and get ready in!

Hotel building has kept its charm inside and it is warm and welcoming.stayed 2 nights. Would not suggest dining here as expensive for basic food. One guy did everything orders, drinks food and probably cooked it as well as serving it. Bedroom ok nothing fancy and bathroom getting ready for a refurb but it was very clean and the room was exceptionally hot even with the radiator off. Can’t open a window. There was 2 fans provided though. Didn’t update the courtesy tray on day 2 but it did have a small fridge to keep your own drinks cool.

This classic Victorian station hotel is iconic. It’s a wonderful piece of local history. The staff are friendly, the hotel retains all its charm and many of the rooms have been modernised. The main entrance is grand and reflects its status of the time. Yes it’s a huge hotel and without doubt will take some upkeep but I love its charm and it’s always very warm and comfortable whenever I stay. Deserves more stars than it gets.

I could feel the springs in my bed. The carpet was threadbare. The room was nice and warm on a cold day. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful. We hate in the bar, unfortunately the service was poor. The man behind the bar was serving drinks, taking food and drink orders and bringing food from the kitchen. This resulted in him spreading himself to thin. He brought my friend a drink and his soup and nothing for me. A lady came from the kitchen with a meal for someone else, we informed her we hadn't got my coffee or food. She sorted both out. My food was very nice but the service was terrible and my drink had to go back because it was cold. We had to park right at the back of the hotel, being disabled it was a nightmare because the car park was full of ice and I was frightened of falling.

Highly recommende hotel

It was an amazing experience, beautiful hotel with loads of classical features. The place was clean and the staff efficient and friendly with a special mention for Shirley at the reception area.
