Serene Farm Stay Guest Suite

Welcome to Fruit of the Coop, a tranquil 7-acre working farm located just outside of Sioux Falls, in the watershed of the Big Sioux River. Our farm features rolling hills and groves of trees, replete with wild turkey, deer and coyote. Stay in a private, furnished basement walk-out guest suite inside the main farmhouse. Enjoy the peaceful setting, beautiful sunrises, and the gorgeous views from the hot tub and fire pit. Safe and welcoming place for all travelers. LGBTQ2IA+ friendly. No fireworks allowed.

The guest suite includes one bedroom outfitted with a queen bed, twin cot, pack 'n play, one full bath, a small kitchenette (stocked with microwave/convection oven, mini fridge, toaster oven, drip coffeemaker, electric sauté pan, and filtered hot/cold water dispenser) and a living/family room with couch, smart TV, and a 2nd living/rec room with 2 twin beds, convertible pool/ping pong table and dart board. Wake up to a beautiful sunrise and take a morning soak in the 4-person hot tub or enjoy the stars around the fire pit in the evening.

During your stay, the door near the kitchenette will be permanently closed to hosts and guests alike so there is no fear of surprise visitors. However, you may hear us working in the basement and on the 1st floor, and you will certainly see us outside, as it is a working farm. In addition, the farmhouse offers multiple Vacation Rentals and HipCamp listings, so there will be other guests on the property.

All guests have access to the grounds. Please do not enter the farm house or any buildings on the property besides the guest suite. You are welcome to appreciate the short self-guided hiking trail on the farm. The trailhead can be found in the SE corner of the back yard, where the pasture fence meets the tree line. Follow the trail to the Adirondack chairs, where you can sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view. If you're feeling adventurous, the trail does circle around the entire 7-acre property, ending up near the front driveway. Please note that you will have to climb over or through a triple-strand smooth wire fence at the end of the hike and you may encounter horses on the 2nd half of the trail. Snowshoes are provided for exploring during the winter months. Two free parking spaces on site.

You will come across chickens, cats, turkeys, horses and dogs while on your stay. Please treat them with respect and do not chase or feed any of the animals anything other than the treats found in the guest suite. The horses enjoy being petted from across the fence, but please do not enter into the horse corral or pasture. Our Bernese Mountain Dog, Toby, roams freely on the property, as does our cat, Toaster. Please do not allow any of the animals inside the guest suite. Even though we love animals of all kinds, we cannot allow guests to bring pets of their own.

There are a number of nearby places to hike, including Palisades State Park, Beaver Creek State Nature Area and Good Earth State Park. In addition, the Big Sioux Recreation Area is a short 10-15 minute walk from the property and has multiple hiking trails, including an archery trail.

The property is 15 minutes from downtown Sioux Falls, where you will find award-winning restaurants, shopping and live music. We want to ensure a comfortable stay perfect for a trip out West - conveniently located midway between Omaha or Minneapolis and the Black Hills.
