I loved everything about this resort. The only reason for the 4 stars is the ocean being a little on the rough side. We could still get in a couple of times when there was a yellow flag. Most days have a red flag.

The hotel is nice and updated. Restaurants and bars are beautifully designed. Layout is nice. Only wished the beach was cleared of seaweed daily. Neighboring hotels did it, so I know it can be done. The seaweed made the beach a no go for me. Also wished the lounge bar (open late) was on the first level.

This was my first stay at a Riu property and it won't be my last. I booked it last minute for my birthday weekend but didn't have any high expectations. I went solely by the good reviews. I'm extremely particular about my hotel stays and i was not disappointed. And if i had any complaints they're not even worth mentioning. The staff was A+++ and the accommodations were fantastic. I really appreciated the attentiveness, cleanliness and multitude of choices with everything (good, drinks, activities, etc). The rainfall shower gets an honorable mention for being the best I've ever had in a hotel, and I've stayed in more than 100. I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed everything but I'd rather encourage you to try it yourself.

They charge you for every single thing. They charged me $90 for getting makeup on one towel. Ridiculous.

They did over charge me with the extra guest but after the second day I really enjoyed myself. You just have to attend the parties to really get comfortable if you’re young.

The food was wildly mediocre, and they were no help arranging transportation to the air port. They told me after the fact I had to reserve 7 days in advance but that was never mentioned in the booking. I even reached before our trip to Try and arrange but because we were coming from playa del Carmen couldn’t help but didn’t take the time to ask about our departure transportation. They tried to charge me 45$ for transport apon my checkout when it came with my elite club booking that was almost 3k dollars. We ended up just getting an uber comfort for 20$ Other than that the staff was pretty friendly.

The resort is new and beautiful. The beach is nice (TONS of seaweed, they tried to rake it). The rooms are really nice with great ocean views. The food is just okay, nothing spectacular and none of the restaurants open until 6:30pm. Your only choice throughout most of the day is the buffet or the little food stand near the pools that has the same selection each day. The buffet is huge with lots of choices, but it’s not outstanding food. The omelets made to order were great though. Unfortunately one night our tv kept turning itself on and we lost a lot of sleep that night continuing to try to turn it off. We called for maintenance but after 20 minutes of waiting at 1:30am, we tried to just deal with it and sleep with clothing and pillows over our faces, but it was so bright even still. The hotel manager refused to help and said I had to contact Expedia. They tried their best but the hotel still refused to refund us that one night. They should look into that and not require their guests to have sleepless nights with no refund on those nights. So disappointing. We did not do the elite club and were glad we didn’t. That “exclusive pool” has nothing special, it’s a boring square pool with no seats in it, no infinity edge, no table, no bar. Just cabanas around it, that’s it. Those rooms are the top 3 floors of the hotel, but our view from the 8th floor was just as stunning. The EC restaurant is small and looked boring too. Save your money. The other 3 pools are where the fun is
