On the surface this hotel looked great as a budget hotel for one overnight stay as I was working in the area the next day. The person behind the desk was very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean. However, the blind in my room was faulty and I couldn't quite put it down the entire way - and the fan for the heater I couldn't seem to turn the temp up or down... it was also very noisy when on. I would have spoken to the team when I was there but by the time I realised both of these things it was late and all I wanted to do was get to sleep! Unfortunately for me, the previous user of the room had set the tv to come on at 5.15am - not a fault of the hotel staff I am sure but it did scare me quite a bit and woke me up a good hour earlier than I had planned which was a shame. Something to check when you're cleaning I think! I would stay here again as it's good value for money hotel, just not in that room please!
The overall cleanliness was spot on.
Bedroom was well designed but the beds felt cheap , every time your turned over the made a clunky spring noise. The bathroom door was a slide across design made of glass so when in the bathroom there was not a complete seal to block off smell or steam. It also meant if you wanted to use the facilities in the night you couldn't turn on the light without disturbing your room mate.
Breakfast was a shambles. Two young girls on to serve a busy restaurant. One cooking the other waiting. The hot food was coming out at a snails pace and you couldn't have a full English with all the items together. The pastries were limited coming out slowly and toasting bread disappeared quickly as that was all that was available on demand. It took us an hour to get a full plate of cooked food.
The girls were not at fault they managed the situation perfectly or as best they could. Poor management!
We had to walk to the restaurant in the evening which served good food but on our return to the hotel we struggled to find a path that wasn't submerged in water. After a torrential downpour the badly laid driveway pavements disappeared.
Not the stay we had expected!!!
family room unable to sleep due to noisy extractor fans outside of room which made loud humming noise all night. Also disturbed by noise of other visitors Tv and there was a lot of noise as people passed outside room. A roll up cigarette was found between the back of the sofa bed and mattress of the made up child's bed (thrown straight in bin but reported at checkout) Second room on third floor was clean and comfortable but again stay spoilt by lack of sleep, On first night we were woken by a lot of bangs- possibly caused by the heavy door on shower room in a near room, we could also hear tv from other room. The second night woken at 1.30 am by a male rapping at and then banging heavily (it sounded like he was kicking) on a door along the corridor. He was shouting for someone called Sarah to open the door. It carried on for quite a while approx 20 mins. Eventually we heard the door being opened and although we could still hear voices it was quieter. We were surprised that there didn't seem to be any security to keep an eye out for this sort of thing. The staff were very friendly but the noise levels from outside of the room were awful. The road into the hotel was poor-full of potholes and large puddles.
Stayed here on a Sunday night. Room was great. But the restaurant was closed on the Sunday evening, with only a limited bar menu - pizza, chilli con carne, etc. The cooked breakfast on the Monday morning looked like it had been sitting there a long time - scrambled egg was inedible.
Was looking forward to staying here after a recommendation from a colleague. The EV charger was out of action, which was another reason why I chose this hotel. The bathroom door got stuck and it took some time to manage to get out of there! Breakfast was good but they keep hashbrowns in a steam bath which makes them very soggy.
Convient location just of the M4 and ideal for an overnight work stop. Hotel was excellent for the price. There is a small bar but limited dining options. Rooms very comfortable and quiet with blackout blinds although they were very warm. Overall though, I would highly recommend
I only stayed for 1 night. Room is clean, bed comfortable. Lots of space for free parking. Subway walking distance, but closes at 6 pm. Included in my booking was breakfast, but i didn't realize it starts at 7 am on weekends, for i have to leave earlier than 7 am due to work, but hot drinks are available for free, and it's good i brought croissants with me. I'm still happy to book myself with them in the future.
Stayed many a time, not the easiest to get to via public transport but worth it for the decent weekend rates paid. More than adequate room and facilities, good service, and a short distance from Magor village and Service Area for other amenities. Would like to see full recycling facilities offered, either in room or designated bins in reception like Travelodge.
