We stayed at Hotel Villa Jantò for five days in October. The views are breathtaking, the rooftop and outdoor pool areas are lovely, and there was a small, heated indoor pool. The free hotel shuttle to nearby towns and the beach is convenient, since the hotel sits atop a steep hill and taxis are surprisingly expensive.
The room, however, was a letdown. It felt painfully plain, with white walls and nearly zero decoration—odd for a hotel that otherwise tries to look somewhat bohemian and stylish. There were many insects (don’t leave any food out or it will be swarming with ants within hours), an occasional unpleasant smell, and a toilet so noisy you couldn’t flush it at night without waking the whole floor. There was no kettle for making brews, and the toiletries were so minimal we had to buy our own. Even the hand wash disappeared during our stay, leaving us with none to use.
The food was the biggest disappointment. Breakfast, aside from pastries, was cold and uninspired (even the eggs). Both dinners we tried were lacking in flavour, the pasta undercooked, and the prices felt high for what was essentially mediocre fare (considering that the hotel mentions using organic produce from their garden), The receptionist was friendly, but the restaurant and bar staff seemed pretty uninterested.
In short, Hotel Villa Jantò delivers on views and location, but if you’re hoping for comfortable rooms and decent food, temper your expectations—or prepare to be underwhelmed.
