The property was close to the centre of Castlemaine. It was clean. Not as good as I expected from the photos. We checked out around 7.30 on Saturday morning, reception was unattended so dropped the key in the locked box. We realised while ordering breakfast in town that my husband had forgotten his reading glasses in the room. We finished eating and got back to the motel probably around 8.45, reception was still unattended so we rang the number from their website, it went to voicemail, left a message explaining our situation. No response. We rang again at about 9.10. This time the lady came out and got the key for my husband. My husband was careless to leave his glasses, but the customer service was very poor. I couldn't believe that reception was unattended after 9am on a Saturday morning. Lucky that it wasn't a real emergency.

Close to town and easy walk to the Loveshack Brewery & cinema. Beds are small but very comfortable. Nice and cozy and the room stayed warm even as it dipped below zero at night.

Blocked drains for 2 of 3 nights

Blocked drains for 2 of our 3 nights in the Family room. Only after the second attempt after 2 days was it fixed. We could only have 1 minute showers as we would be standing in a puddle of our shower water after a minute. It would then take 20 minutes to drain completely. There was also no housekeeping, no tissues and no forks (but there were knives and spoons)

It was a lovely big room with. Very comfortable bed. Large bathroom with good fit out. Great to have a microwave plus good kitchen type things like good wine glasses and mugs. Large tv. Table and chairs. Really, a good motel.

The motel has been tastefully refurbished and the furniture was stylish. However, there were no plates or bowls in the room. Cutlery was limited to 2 teaspoons and 1 knife. Toaster didn’t work, but that wasn’t too bad, because the bread l bought at the IGA was 3 days past the “best before” date.

The Castle was a very handy find for a visit to Castlemaine. The room was very clean with a good bathroom and very good mattress. The people were friendly and helpful, and the motel is a short walk to the center of town. We were very happy with the room and think the Castle is very good value.
