Very cool vibe. Not the newest or shiniest, but such a great value. Definitely did not feel like I was staying in a hostel. Loved having a private room. Great lounge area to hang. Just blocks from Michigan Ave. and many other notable landmarks. Friendly staff.

The Freehand Chicago is shuch a throwback in time, it's just fun to stay here. I told a friend it like being in a 1970's Hippie Hotel....I'm old so that's a positive statement :)

Love the 60s, hippies, rustic feel....outside piping in the ceilings, very authentic, a little dark in majestic looking, but yeah, very clean super friendly people, enjoyed my stay. Love the old school photo booth!!

Everything is OK. The staff is excellent. The property is really clean. There are plenty of shops around and restaurants to eat and shop at however it’s Chicago and it’s winter the rooms need to be a little warmer for folks like me who our middle age with arthritis otherwise it was great thank you my day was pleasant Ant . The stay itself was amazing because it was a one night getaway for my birthday. We couldn’t figure out how to turn on the air conditioner so it was pretty hot inside the room, but overall it was great! The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was nice and quiet.

Super neat hotel, but rooms need TLC

The common areas of the hotel are fantastic and beautifully decorated, as was our hotel room bathroom. The room itself needs repairs and deep-cleaning. Several of the custom lights (looked so neat in the photos online!) were damaged, didn’t work, or were falling off the wall/mounting. The carpet was in poor condition. While we never expected any sort of view, the window was drafty and not in great condition, and the blinds were discolored or stained. For the price, this wasn’t a bad deal, and the bar spaces downstairs are awesome and super vibey! The room could just use a little TLC.

Super disappointed. Have loved Freehands in the past, especially LA. The Chicago location is no where near the standards set in LA. Rooms were dirty, heat didn’t work, stains on curtains, etc… Front desk was somewhat accommodating in looking to relocate rooms, but all seems to have same issues. We requested a refund and moved hotels.
