Pictures of the rooms are incredible misleading. Rooms are dirty, smell, not decorated, and terrible. Tv didn’t work the entire time. Room smelled like mold. Staff was very nice and the bars that are open to the public are great. Don’t stay here. Just visit the broken shaker.

Room was super small, dark, and musty. The window was facing the inside of an alleyway so there was no light. The toilet was constantly running when we arrived and the sink was dripping. Cable TV didn't work for 3 nights.

The Tv (the only amenity within the room) was damaged and didn’t work. When the front desk staff was asked about when the service would resume they were flippant and unconcerned. My partner and i were unable to sleep well as a result. There was visible dust piles on the light fixture in above the bed, and the decorative pillow on the bed was in rough shape

This hotel is not for everyone. Loved it. Stay at a chain hotel if you are anyone. Such a fun place, unique and easy. Felt I was in the Left Bank of Paris but in Chicago. Only things I will say is that the light in the bathroom does not allow a person to easily ally make up accurately. Dim. Bring your own bright bulb.

Stayed in a private quad. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was more than efficient. Didn’t spend much time at the bar, but the lounge was super cool. The coffee was excellent! The rooms aren’t necessarily for lounging but served as a good base for a weekend in Chicago. The location is great. The windows needed a good cleaning and some of the curtains needed changing. The sheets were clean. Felt safe and comfortable at night. The stay was quiet at night, made for a good sleep! Will definitely stay again.

Always enjoy my stay at the free hand! ❤️ The only thing I would caution is if you're a light sleeper u might have an issue because the doors automatically slam as you go into the rooms, so you wake up at 5 or 6 AM in the morning to someones door slamming as they leave the room for work etc.

Because of the dark wall color and dark entry way/ check in it felt dirty. Hallways carpet wasn’t swept. Shower needed to be cleaned properly- there was mold growing. Room seemed tired and outdated.

I had previously stayed at this hotel in a shared female quad in March 2024 and I had loved it so much that I booked a private quad for me and my family for June 2025. Yet, as much as the staff was kind and considerate, and the hotel in general was beautiful, the room we were given to stay at was very unsatisfactory. The reading lamps of all four beds were broken, the bathroom door wouldn’t shut, the hot water didn’t work the first time we tried it, and the tissue paper box was definitely used, the used tissue left the way it was. I still like the hotel for its ambience and close proximity to the beach and subway, so I’d definitely hope to stay here again, with the same conditions as in 2024.
