I was not satisfied with my experience. the first room we had was extremely small, nothing like the photos. it was very hot and the AC did not work, we called for assistance and the maintenance man came in to clean out the dirty filter while we were in the room. after he left, our room smelled like weed. we then found a stain in our bed and hair, it was disgusting! we called and got a new room, which was bigger but still not great and the AC did not work in there either. there was only one working elevator and it took forever, stopping at every single floor. i will not be staying at this hotel again, very disappointed! not at all worth the money i spent, very overpriced for what it was

One elevator was broken during my stay, so getting to the 16th floor was a bit of lag in higher traffic times. However the unit was cleaner than a lot of other negative reviews I have seen for this hotel. Certainly, the room could use more detailed cleaning, but there wasn't a proliferation of mold or mildew to be seen. A bit in the corner of the shower, but that is all I recall seeing. The window shade was dirty, but nothing to get upset over. Honestly, you get what you pay for and for the value saved in a room like this, you should -- in my opinion, expect that some factors will be less than desirable. But did you save hundreds of dollars in the process to be a couple blocks away from Michigan Avenue? Of course you did. So, all things considered -- super happy staying here and would stay again. They provide towels and a proper safe in your room, with a double lock on the door. Sheets were clean and the room did smell or look unattractive.

Our experience at the Freehand was terrible. Not very cleanly, the AC doesn't work, the bed was not comfortable at all, we couldn't get the shad down so the person at the front desk told us to cut it with a knife. And then when we were trying to leave the elevator was broken so we walked down 8 flights of stairs. There were several people complaining down stairs when we finally made it down the stairs. The only thing thats good about this place is location.

disappointing stay; lack of amenities

I’ve stayed at the hotel for 7 years. The service is drastically worse. The cleaning is non existent and they won’t clean the bathrooms for the hostel bedrooms unless asked. The housekeepers are rude and intrusive. The front desk is apathetic. You won’t be able to refrigerate your food since they lack a guest kitchen ( they had one but tore it down for some odd reason) and there aren’t any mini fridges in the rooms. They don’t even have a microwave for guests. Hopefully they get new leadership and restore the hotel to what it once was.
