Owl Farmhouse: Charming 19th-Century French Farmhouse in a Tranquil Hamlet

New for 2025: even more comfort, privacy, and practical upgrades await! We’ve made some lovely improvements to welcome guests in 2025. There are now traditional shutters on the bedroom windows at the front of the house, plus a blackout curtain in the single room – perfect for a peaceful night’s sleep. All double beds now feature brand new mattresses for added comfort.

In the kitchen, we’ve upgraded to a full-size fridge freezer and added a full-size dishwasher to make self-catering easier than ever. Outside, a fence has been installed to enhance both privacy and security, and a lean-to pergola now provides shade over the outdoor dining area – ideal for lazy lunches or long summer evenings.

Tucked away in a peaceful hamlet with only four occupied houses, this charming 19th-century French farmhouse offers a restful escape into the countryside. You’ll be surrounded by rolling fields, open skies, and that magical quiet only rural France can offer.

The nearby town of Ahun is just 5 km away, with essentials like a boulangerie and a supermarket. For wider shopping, fuel, and other services, Guéret is only 14 km away.

Ground Floor

The heart of the house is a spacious, fully equipped kitchen with a dining table that seats 8 – perfect for group meals, family breakfasts, or long conversations over wine and cheese.

The cosy sitting room offers a leather couch, an additional sofa, and a comfortable chair, along with a TV for relaxed evenings in.

There’s also a ground-floor double bedroom, ideal for anyone who prefers to avoid stairs. Adjacent to it is a ground-floor toilet (with an adult booster seat available).

The large walk-in shower room includes a wash basin, chair, and a washing machine. Grab handles are fitted in the toilet, shower room, and shower itself – a thoughtful touch for guests who may need a little extra support.

Upstairs

The upper floor has three comfortable bedrooms: two doubles and one twin, providing ample sleeping space for families or groups of friends.

The upstairs bathroom includes an over-bath shower, toilet, wash basin, and bidet – everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Outdoor Space

Outside, the enclosed garden is perfect for soaking up the fresh country air. The patio area is equipped with a table, chairs, pergola, and an outdoor rug – a lovely spot for alfresco dining or a morning coffee.

To the side of the house, a small decked area with chairs offers another peaceful place to sit.

For guests travelling with vehicles, a large barn is available for secure, shaded parking – whether you’re bringing a car, motorbike, or bicycles.

Additional Information

Bed Linen & Towels

No need to bring your own, all towels and bed linen is provided and there are extra pillows and blankets should you need. If you are staying more than 1 week, the bed linen and towels can be refreshed mid stay.

Children

Children are very welcome, but please note that no specific facilities are provided for young children or babies. If your child is not yet able to use adult glasses, utensils, stairs, or chairs independently, please bring whatever extras they may need to be comfortable and safe during your stay.

As the hamlet is exceptionally quiet, we kindly ask that children respect the peaceful environment for the benefit of all guests and neighbours.

Pets

Friendly dogs are welcome at the farmhouse (sorry – no cats). Marley, our very friendly resident dog, lives next door and isn’t keen on cats – hence the restriction.

We ask that only friendly dogs join you on your holiday, and please note that due to the surrounding farmland and livestock, dogs must be kept under control at all times for everyone’s safety.

Dogs must not be left alone in the property under any circumstances.
