A Relaxing Base with True Irish Hospitality

Our stay at Hillgrove Guesthouse was a relaxing and comfortable experience. While it is slightly removed from the central area, this location made it feel safe and peaceful, with the convenience of a Lidl grocery store across the street for picking up wine and snacks. The guesthouse itself is somewhat dated, though the bathroom had been recently renovated. Our room was clean and comfortable; the beds were very good, though the furniture could use updating. Check-in was easy and the staff were exceptionally friendly. Stephen, who was on nights when we returned, truly exemplified Irish hospitality; warm, welcoming and full of helpful tips on what to see and do in the area. The location is excellent, just under 1 km to the information centre on the harbour. After reading some reviews beforehand, we were apprehensive but our experience was great. Hillgrove Guesthouse offers a comfortable stay with a touch of true Irish hospitality.

When we arrived it felt as if we were home again. The genuine welcome, the warm smile and the great conversation started at checkin. We were immediately familiarized with the area, personally shown to our room and shown the hotel features along the way. We only stayed one night but regretted we hadn’t booked for more. Steve our host was witty, kind, helpful and oh so representative of the well known Irish hospitality! The room was so clean, the bathroom so modern, nothing amiss with the stay at all. The breakfast was so good before we left. We will definitely go back again

The staff was very friendly. It was walkable to town center and Marina. It was comfortable for a one night stay. The room was clean but a little damp; the furniture was falling apart; beds were ok. Needs updating. We were told when we checked in that breakfast was included, but the next morning they said it wasn't.
