Wild Kea Lodge was perfect for our 2 night stay in Franz Josef. Our comfort room was a good base for exploring the area. The communal kitchen and dining area was really handy. The lodge is in the centre of the township so really convenient for amenities.

This property was generally good for a one night stay.
The one unacceptable thing was that we did not get hot water for our 2nd floor hotel room at7/7:15am. Shower hot water was not timely. We had a 7:45am tour booking deadline to meet. Tried to get hot water for 7-10 minutes. None! Shower or otherwise.
Informed hotel after our rendezvous. They we sorry. That was all. Not good enough for a Franz Josef Glacier hotel venue.
Staff friendly, room was ok but quite hot as relied on a fan instead of air conditioning. Main issue was that it didn’t feel very clear when we booked that it would be a shared bathroom. As it was we were next door to the toilet and the bathroom which was very high spec but make sure you read carefully when you book if like us you try to avoid a shared bathroom. Generally still a good place to stay though.
From the moment we were greeted with warm muffins with butter and jam, we knew we were in a great place. It got better. The place was smart, modern and clean. The shared kitchen was well equipped. And the staff were brilliant.
This was a run down cottage that was difficult to get in and out of reception. Our unit had full cooking facilities but dishes were dirty. We didn’t cook and washed cups before having morning coffee. The privacy and ocean view was nice.
It was quaint and clean. I didn't like the shared bathroom and lack of air conditioning. I think the former should be explicitly noted in the property description.
The proprieters were friendly welcoming & helpful
Nice touches like a welcome muffin on arrival, free popcorn on tap & a great coffee machine!

Convenient location, interesting the employees were also seen at the various restaurants we went to. Our door of our room didn’t shut without lifting up on it heartily. Didn’t realize when we booked we would be going down the hall for bathroom and shower-somehow we missed reading that in the reservation
Mixing with other people in communal areas, free coffee machine, Brollies available for wet weather. Discount at partner restaurants was appreciated.
Fans provided to help with the heat.
However as our room was above the communal bathroom we were disturbed as people forgot to switch off the light/extractor fan when they left which caused noise and vibration of the fan in our room.

Extremely small and quite noisy. The community kitchen however was fantastic. I’m getting bit long in the tooth so maybe that why i limit my star rating. There is actually nothing wrong with this property for those who are flexible and want to economize.
Excellent facilities and shared kitchen and lounge. Free coffee machine Coffee and free popcorn.
The God was very comfortable in our ensuite room. Shower pressure, and good to have two bottles of complementary water in our room.
Very friendly staff and so nice to receive complimentary warm scone with jam and butter on arrival
Location was great. The front desk staff friendly and suggested a great restaurant. Room had all amenities necessary and was a reasonable size. There were 2 problems. The first is thay our room was 1st floor right next to the front entry, so it was loud with people coming in late at night and departing early in the morning. What's worse is there is a picnic table just outside the window where people go to smoke and to drink. This is another source of noise outside normal quiet hours. The other problem is the bathroom sink. It is so small it's almost useless. Wash your face and the floor grts soaked.
The lodge was beautiful and had a great view! We walked into town to grab breakfast and dinner. I didnt realize the room I picked had shared bathrooms but it worked out for the night we stayed. Highly recommend staying
We had booked via Expedia. First of all they gave one of our group the wrong room saying they could only stay one night then they figured it out and had to move. Then the next day they said we had to pay more. They backed down when I showed the booking email (again). Then to cap it off they said the bbq was available but when we came to use it it was not set up. We had bought food and everything. To be fair they did bring another bbq and we got set up. 3 other guests then came and used the bbq. Maybe they should have the set up !
We stayed here for one night, had one of the few quad rooms. Room had a kitchenette which was well equipped, property has a common dining and kitchen area with an espresso machine and popcorn maker. Fully kitted out with pots and pans, utensils and basic spices. Extra bathroom (shower) and toilet on the ground floor, gym area which we couldn't use due to limited time, BBQ area which also couldn't use due to bad weather. Would highly recommend staying here even if just for a night. Staff were friendly and service was excellent
Big and well-equipped kitchen area. Free popcorn and coffee. Overall clean, seating outside, nice lounge area. The walls a paper-thin and the staff was courteous, though seemed not too interested in being proactively helpful. WiFi connection was very slow and spotty, be sure to have data. The bathroom were quite cold I thought even though it wasn't winter. Overall, a pleasant experience at a reasonable rate.
