Property was amazing. Breakfast was excellent. Ordered the steak for dinner $48 was excessive for a piece of meat that tasted like it had been defrosted in the microwave very chewing and I'm guessing was Cajun seasoned flavour ruined the meat. Only half was edible due to thick grizzle in the meat which could not be cut with a steak knife. Sides were poor. $41 chicken burger dripping with oil. Would not suggest dinner there. Other than that would definitely stay again.

The property is located a couple of kilometers along a gravel road. I booked a Deluxe Spa Suite (14 - Kereru). First impressions: The room smelled slightly of stale cigarettes despite a strict no-smoking policy, but the room was enormous, and had floor to ceiling windows providing wonderful views of the Amuri Basin. Decor was somewhat worn and dated, but I loved the fireplace. Lots of birdlife in the gardens to see and hear. The private spa was a treat being able to soak and relax in such a quiet environment. I didn't love the slimy feeling or colour of the hot tub water, but it was hot and the views were gorgeous. You could hear other people in their hot tubs on the balconies, but that was to be expected. The venue binder mentioned bug spray and repellent in the room, but it wasn't - I had to call and request it and it was quickly provided to deal with a few rogue sandflies and mosquitoes. Lovely spa bath, with a small sachet of bath salts provided, and incredible water pressure in the shower. I spent a lot of time soaking in the spa bath and it was wonderful. I was disappointed at the toiletries - the bulk pump dispensers and quality of the contents was like watery dish soap. It would have been more fitting to have a set of nicer quality mini-sized toiletries, considering the deluxe spa suite and room pricing. I didn't eat at the restaurant. The room had a mini bar fridge and kettle, no microwave and ample tea, coffee and cookies (at no cost).

Had a couple problems with the spa as one of the spas lights did not work and the spa inside would randomly keep turning on during the night so had to get up to turn it off, also had no Netflix or anything like that working on the tv and was no attempt for them to fix it

Our key card didn’t work, and when we finally got into the room, it was completely unclean—towels on the floor, bed used, etc. We asked for a new room before heading to dinner and received one, but there was no compensation beyond an apology. Nice place, but it needs better management and more staff.

Our stay at Braemar Lodge was definitely a highlight on our tour. The spacious room, the cosy gazfire, the great view and private spa were a real treat. We had room service and the food was very good too. Staff is a little scarce. Also the spa treatments were not available on Wednesday. But we loved the place and will definitely be back on our next visit to New Zealand. Then for a longer stay.

Accomodation was luxurious. It was disappointing that we couldn’t dine at the restaurant & that room service wasn’t available until after 8pm. We ended up driving into Hanmer Springs for a meal & drinks. No soap in the shower.
