Nice hotel but greedy early check-in fee?!

Hi. The Ahern hotel was fine. Comfortable, quiet, clean, etc. The included breakfast was a nice addition. If there was one issue I had it was the "early check-in" fee. I arrived at the Ahern last Saturday (03/01) at approx. 11am. I had just arrived from an international overnight flight. I asked the check in receptionist IF THERE WAS A ROOM AVAILABLE, could I check into my room early so I could rest. She said there were no clean rooms available yet, so I would have to wait until 1pm. However, then she checked with housekeeping and a room WAS suddenly available, but only if I paid a $50 early check in fee. (!) This is extremely greedy and low-class. You obviously had a room available and it costs you NOTHING to let me in the room a couple hours early, yet you nickel and dime a customer so you can squeeze another $50?! Very unfortunate and I won't stay there again because of it.

Just missed not having coffee in the room. A really good breakfast was supplied, but coffee wasn't included. Great environment, upkeep, and beautiful room and exclusive amenities otherwise. Easy parking. Bed was a little hard. Felt very safe inside, but probably wouldn't want to walk too far off the back side of the property.
