If you are going to Leadville and plan on staying in a home built in the 1800's then you have to expect quirkiness and eclectic when it comes to the home. The Air Capitol Cottage is no different. With its Hobbit door, interesting selection of aviation knick-knacks and slopping floors, this home delivers quirky fun. This home is just a few short blocks to downtown, the Mineral Belt is across the street and the cozy back yard provides a quiet place to socialize or hangout after a day in the mountains. The house was well stocked with towels, pillows and extra blankets, a must in the winter time in Leadville. The grocery store, Floyd's of Leadville and the liquor store are all in walking distance making stocking up for the stay easy and the new refrigerator kept our beer cold. The assortment of games, books and smart TV were all appreciated for helping to wind down at the end of the day.A couple of things I would like to see changed or updated to make this home away from home even better. 1. Led strip lighting in the kitchen area. The dark wood and oddly place lights make it hard to see to cook.2. Pots and pans as well as kitchen utensils were a bit of a hodge-podge. An upgrade here along with better lighting would make the kitchen a cozy functional place to cook dinner.3. The beds were adequate but not great. A couple of quality mattresses would make for a better nights sleep at 10,000'A few tweaks and this fun little house will only get better.
