Found a cockroach in our room, upon arriving. Went to check in desk and felt like our complaint was an inconveince to the staff. She told me cockroaches are all over the island-and they even have them in their homes (certainly didn't make me feel better).They gave us another room-to move ourselves into. Also, the Outrigger was going through a remodel. The lobby was so different than what the ads made it look like. Basically the lobby was in a conference room with 5 desks lined up. When I mentioned this to their staff, they said 'yep, we are going through a remodel.' Felt like false advertising.

The room was clean and really cute. Staff was very courteous and helpful. The mango tea in the front lobby was delicious and their gift shop had tons of snacks, toiletries, a Starbucks, and cute gifts. I really liked the setup of the pool to beach area as well. This resort isn’t massive, like some, which I thought was a real plus. It was totally manageable.

One microwave for the entire floor. Upon entering the room the door weighs 80 lbs because the severe rust and lack of maintenance. The floor is cracked by the bathtub leaving room for water damage below, the tub drain is stuck closed so i had to take it off. The shower had 2 bottles of conditioner and one body wash. The worst is the fire hazards there. Microwave is plugged into a extentsion cord. They piggied back an extentsion cord under the bed because one could fit behind the headboard and the other was a plain plug so it would not fit. I do plan on calling the fire department since the maintenance staff is so careless in their efforts they would rather see the place burn down.

A big rip-off. Expedia might say the price they quote is what you pay, but it isn't. Not by a long shot. They don't mention a parking fee, a resort fee, and 5 different taxes which added another 25% we had to pay on check-in. When I complained the desk clerk just smiled and said we shouldn't have booked through a third party, it was their responsibility to tell us. I don't know, or care, who's responsible, I only know we got screwed. Getting past that the place was mediocre at best. The room was OK and the staff were nice. The pools would be good if you have kids. The restaurant was adequate, but we certainly didn't go to it twice. The beach is a joke, how they can call this a beach resort is beyond me. There is a small edge of sand to the edge of the water and then nothing but hard rock. No amenities either, access is down a dirt path - no paved trail, let alone a handrail or stairs. Nothing to sit on, not that it would matter, the only thing to do is stroll. We had a great time on Kaua'a, but the Outrigger put a definite damper on it.
