I had a confirmed, prepaid booking at Balham Lodge for my family. After a long drive with our two-year-old, we arrived shortly before ten in the evening. We were told the room had been given away minutes earlier to someone who booked later that night. This was not a mix-up. They knowingly handed our room to another guest and left us with nothing.
The receptionist was the same person who, the day before, insisted the booking could not be cancelled. Twenty-four hours later he was checking in a later booking and informing me our room was gone. That tells you everything you need to know about how this place operates.
We were left outside at night with a restless child, searching for somewhere else to stay. We didn’t secure another hotel until close to midnight and had to pay far more for it. The disruption derailed the start of our weekend and forced us to spend the next morning recovering instead of doing what we came to London for.
This establishment cannot be trusted to honour a confirmed reservation. Anyone expecting basic professionalism should avoid it.
