I wouldn’t rate this as a five-star resort by any stretch. It’s not terrible, but it’s certainly not great.
We paid for the Preferred Club, and honestly, it wasn’t worth it. The premium perks like the lounge access and higher-end alcohol fell short. The lounge food was subpar, and the top-shelf options were still things like José Cuervo.
There were standout employees who made our stay brighter. Luis & Lucas at the main pool, Mercedes & Maria in the adults-only and Preferred sections, Beymar at Oceana, Victor at the Seaside Grill, and Ozi & Alan at concierge. Each delivered exceptional service. Unfortunately overall service was so inconsistent we found ourselves planning our days around when those few were working.
The same unreliability showed up in the rooms. Our first Preferred Oceanfront room had a major mold issue. Ozi handled it professionally and moved us quickly to a cleaner room, which we appreciated. But mold should never be something guests have to deal with. The new room was better, but still not worth the Preferred upcharge. The oceanfront view was lovely, and you can always hear the waves. But the patio was uninviting and had crappy furniture so we never really wanted to be out there.
This resort has real potential. But for now, the 5 star label is misleading. As it stands it’s more of a 3 star resort with flashes of excellence thanks only to a few great employees.
