Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities
Room 14 was awful and priced at least 3 times more than it should have been. In the basement, dingy, musty, so cramped you could not open the cabinet as it was 6 inches from bed, which had a Shakey leg. Tiny sink, no soap or shampoo as pictured, pitiful bath towel, none for hands. So noisy all night long and into the early morning, no sleep.

Old hostel. Great location and helpful staff made up for the basement room
I would not recommend this place to anyone who is older and travelling alone. What is shown in the photos does not represent the reality. I had booked a double room with an attached bathroom and paid 150 euros. I was shocked to see the size of the room. There was no ventilation. It was below the level of the road and you could hear cars and people walking past. I had no option but to check out and look for another place as there was no way I could sleep in an airless room in a noisy neighbourhood. As I said, perhaps for the young, rooms like this are fine. But they are not a good choice for an older person. And the charges are too high for a room like that.
We arrived around 6:00 PM after a 20-hour trip from the U.S. with my 10-year-old son, exhausted and jet-lagged, hoping to rest before our 9:00 PM tickets to The Lion King theater show. Unfortunately, we were given a basement room with an overwhelming odor of dampness and sewage.
We requested a room change, but were told none were available. The only option provided was a single room upstairs without a private bathroom, despite our booking being for a double room with en-suite. No refund or discount was offered despite the downgrade.
The lack of support during such a difficult travel day was deeply disappointing. I’ve stayed in many places around the world, and this was sadly one of the worst experiences I’ve had.
I would not recommend this property.
I have stayed in hotels much better for half the price of this hotel. The room smells like a sewer. They don't include shampoo, the neighborhood is not safe at night. Many hostile illegal migrants and drunks. At night I can hear on the street, fighting and bottles being broken. Trust me when i tell you to spend a little more, and get yourself a better hotel. The sewer smell in the room coming from the bathroom gave me headaches and terrible sleep. I will never return to this hotel.
Traté de poner buena voluntad, porque algunos comentarios eran terribles. No es un desastre, pero lo peor es que sale mucho olor de los desagues del baño. Y el precio, realmente es muy caro para lo que ofrece. La zona no es agradable, aunque parece segura.
This hotel has horrible WiFi!! There were two routers to connect to and neither had internet. I stayed there two nights and couldn’t find restaurants, directions, no email, not even texts would go through! I asked the front desk about it and they just said “everybody is using it at once which is why it’s slow “. That’s not true because I tried around the clock and had to go to bars and restaurants for wifi
The hotel is very dirty. The shower was broken when I arrived and I had to change rooms because once the shower was fixed and I could take a shower, doing so caused the water to leak into the room. The surrounding area is quite dangerous, which is not the fault of the hotel of course, but something to consider. The staff are nice and friendly and the location is close to Atocha Train Station and Puerta del Sol.

The property is conveniently located near shopping (Carrefour), metro Lavapies and not too far from Calle de Atocha from which is fairly easy to get to Museo Reina Sofia, El Rastro, Mercado de San Fernando and multiple restaurants in between.
The shared bathroom (aseos) was new to me and the room assigned to me (#14) faced the street which at street level made it noisy throughout the night.
The staff was friendly and helpful with questions and suggestions.
The property is a modest motel, so there should be no expectations on anything but the basic for a one night stay: the bathroom was clean for it being a shared amenity and the room and linen were impeccably clean.
The worst place I’ve ever spent a night. Expedia should remove them as a hotel option. One night there was a mouse in the lobby, our room flooded with water coming out of the wall and there were worms on the floor the next morning. Shady characters hanging out in the shop next door every night that we had to pass through to get to the front door. There are better options just a few blocks up the road.
No recomiendo!!
The hotel would be better described as a hostel. The room was impossibly small (I knew that going in) but they had an enormous bed in it that made it very hard to move around. There was an air conditioner but no remote to control it, so we slept with the windows open and endured non-stop street noise until 2 a.m. Then, our neighbors who had booked several rooms started up in the hallways, so we endured another 2 hours of noise. There were no sheets on the bed, only a blanket we had to look for. The shower head wouldn't stay in place, so we sprayed water all over the bathroom trying to shower. It was cheap and near the train station but other than that, nothing to redeem it.
We stayed at Motel Lavapiés for two nights. Here’s my review:
Location:
The location is convenient, close to many shops and restaurants, and within a 15-20 minute walk to more vibrant areas.
Facilities:
We booked two rooms with the expectation of a shared bathroom between them, but it turned out the bathroom was shared by all the rooms on the floor. If you’re particular about hygiene, this might not be the best option. The rooms themselves are average, and there is a shared fridge and microwave available for all guests.
Noise:
The most frustrating part of the stay was the noise. Both nights were filled with loud noises and shouting, which made it difficult to sleep.
