Welcome to The Otter Den at Massanutten!
In search of a peaceful getaway in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley? Look no further than The Otter Den at Massanutten Resort! This four-bedroom, two-bathroom home sleeps a total of 10 people and includes one king bed, two queen beds, and one twin over full bunk bed.

This cozy mountain home will be the perfect backdrop for unforgettable memories with friends and family. Cook a hearty breakfast in the fully-equipped country-style kitchen, take part in a bit of competitive fun with pool, cards, and board games in the game room, or enjoy a quiet cup of coffee while observing the local wildlife from the comfort of the screened porch. The vaulted ceilings and large windows of the main level provide tons of natural light and views of the wooded area surrounding the home.

The Otter Den will feel like a secluded mountain getaway, but is located on-site at Massanutten Resort which features exciting attractions like the Indoor/Outdoor WaterPark, Family Adventure Park, two golf courses, hiking trails, and more. The Otter Den also includes free access to resort pools and recreation centers. Once you are finished enjoying all that the resort has to offer, we suggest a trip to nearby local communities for some of the Shenandoah Valley's best outdoor recreation, dining, and entertainment options.

We appreciated the easy check in process and communication with the property manager (all through text). We had an issue with the plumbing and they responded and resolved the issue almost immediately. That was super helpful since we were there with 3 young kiddos and definitely didn't want to spend the day sitting there waiting for a solution; they took care of the issue while we were out hiking and enjoying our day! We also loved the park, arcade, and amenities being right down the road. Our kids still talk about the "mountain house" and how much fun we had; we would definitely stay here again!

Fun vacation

The house was great, it threw us off a little upon arrival as we thought we had more of a yard. Make sure to stock up on supplies such as trash bags, toilet paper, laundry and dishwasher soap before you go. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation.

Good location, cleanliness not great

We booked this with our three young children for a ski weekend this past weekend. We paid for early check in which was a price but we need it with how young our kids are. We arrived and the house smelled of urine. The carpets were vacuumed but the bathrooms were not clean and it looked like someone had used them. Our baby found dog feces under the bed which caused us to leave and stay somewhere else. Management was responsive however we felt we needed to move to a different location due to cleanliness. They might need a different cleaning crew.

Convenient but flawed

Great location in Massanutten Resort and close to some great off-property restaurants. The home is VERY well-equipped for families with young kids, offering toys, a great basement setup, and thoughtful touches like potty seats and step stools. The kitchen was well-stocked, which was helpful, especially during snowy weather.However, the house itself was underwhelming. A strong cat urine odor on the main level triggered my mother’s asthma, forcing us to leave a day early. The carpeting felt unclean and a loose basement stair was a safety concern. Updating to a non-carpeting flooring would help, especially with pets, snow and moisture tracking in.Trip Worth was communicative but didn’t offer help or a discount when we reported the odor. They did provide an early check-in option for 75 which we took advantage of.Overall, if they address the odor and update the flooring, this could be an excellent option for families. As it stands, it’s convenient but flawed.

Beautiful place

Everything you need is provided. Just bring garbage bags, food and some minor cleaning supplies. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the roads. Beautiful neighborhood, but the roads are super steep, curvy and dark. I mean pitch black. I couldn't drive my Toyota Corrola after sundown. Dangerous roads. The ski resort area is not nearly that curvy and steep as the neighborhood. The roads are so steep its like a roller-coaster ride. But school buses were on those roads ant they didn't have a problem. Overall, the experience was well worth it.

Good New Years getaway

Came to the Otter’s Den for a short new years getaway. The hole was very accommodating and as described on VRBO. My wife and I brought our 3 kids, plus 2 of the kids friends. The house slept everyone comfortable and had plenty of games for the kids to be entertained. Home was warm and comfy. Conveniently located to all Massanutten has to offer. Would stay again for sure.

Early Christmas Trip

Such a great place. Room for everyone to be together or spend time in their own spaces. We celebrated an early Christmas while my daughter and her family were here from Seattle. We asked if the house would be decorated, and all I can say was WOW! It was gorgeous. We arrived after dark and the only thing lit up was the Christmas tree and it was absolutely breathtaking. I would highly recommend this location. It's convenient, easy to get to and plenty of room to park..

It was the perfect spot! So peaceful and felt like we were in the middle of the woods without being isolated in the middle of the woods! It was clean and such a great place to stay! Loved the screened porch. Would definitely stay again. They forgot to leave trash bags in any of the trash cans but that was an easy grocery run fix!

Very Nice Place to Stay

We had a small snafu after checking in. We didn’t have any trash bags. We contacted the owner who had someone run a couple to us. We had to purchase more trash bags so each can would have one. After that our trip was fabulous. We enjoyed the property. It was close to what we needed. The place was clean and well appointed. My son enjoyed the pool table and we liked that we had access to a pool. (It was difficult to find which one was open as it was in the shoulder season.) We participated in a couple of the classes offered by the report and did an escape room and Luray Caverns. It was definitely a good choice.

Spread Out

The Otter Den Cabin allowed my family to spread out, have plenty of space for family dinner, and make fun memories on vacation. The three bedrooms upstairs, 1 huge bedroom downstairs, and ample square footage made the home feel open and spacious. We enjoyed the large dining room for family meals. The kitchen is simple, but well-appointed for healthy meal preparation.

Great location for JMU activities

We stayed in Otter Den several days over the graduation weekend. The house provided plenty of space for our extended family. We especially loved the dining room which had plenty of seating so we could all eat together. It was a quick and easy 20 minute drive to get into Harrisonburg for graduation activities.

Great place for 2 families with children

My family of 5 and my sister’s family of 5 greatly enjoyed this cute home at Massanutten for a short week. We knew there wouldn’t be much snow so wanted a good home base in case we couldn’t do all the things we usually do when coming to the mountain each year. We had 6 kids ages 3-9 and the place worked out great! The downstairs rec room was great, it was so nice to not have to pack any toys with us, and the adults could enjoy playing pool in the evenings. The kids and adults played so much chess, it was great. My youngest took a nap on the hammock outside one afternoon and all the kids took turns playing on the swing out towards the back. It was nice to have the dog friendly house as well so we could take our pup with us and enjoy some hiking while we were there. Overall the perfect place for 2 families! Plenty of space to sleep, play, and a great kitchen with all the things! We will definitely be back!
