I rate the host with something less than one star - the house and it’s amenities get a 5-star rating. I am also a Premier Partner with VRBO with 5 houses in Costa Rica and a SuperHost on a different platform. Hosting is literally my job.
We had a lovely, easy stay at this house. We thoroughly enjoyed its comforts and picnic table and sitting by the stream - not to mention its ideal Location to Ohiopyle and Fallingwaters, however everything fell apart after we left.
Backstory: the day before we left late in the afternoon during our wine hour - some guys stopped by from the local power company saying they had to enter the property to look at trees by the powerlines - note: we did not give them permission, but rather we were told what they were doing.
We asked the guys not to trim any trees or make any noise and they said they would be back a different day. I did not mention this to the owner because shortly after our ideal wine hour listening to the stream, my niece was hospitalized and I spent the rest of the night dealing with that.
Upon leaving the next morning, after washing and putting away all dishes, removing the trash, cleaning the grill and following all other protocols they asked us to, including sending a friendly email saying that we had left the property and that “by the way, there are some guys who just showed up to trim some trees on your property,” I was called by VRBO saying the owner wanted a conference call because I had pretended to be the owner and had given the power company permission to cut trees on her property. What???!!!! During the call the owner would not let me speak - for which I notably got very frustrated as she kept speaking over me - and accused me of what was said above. I explained that nothing of the sort was true - at no time had we given permission - we were told what was happening - not asked - by the power company.
Everything about the way the owner treated us, her condescending manner on the “conference call” (interesting side note: even the VRBO representative said to the owner that her problem was with the power company and NOT us), her refusal to let me speak and to LISTEN to our side of the story was appalling. So yeah - she gets a one star - how you finish things matters. Our lovely, peaceful stay is now rippled with memories of a crazy owner who accused us of allowing a power company to cut trees on and around their power lines and easement.
