As all female travellers felt very safe at this hotel. We have been returning here from Scotland for a number of years. Yes its an old fashioned hotel with some quirks and sounds but its clean, very central for everything and staff are all excellent. We cant wait to return again next year.

No, the air conditioning was not affective. It was a box unit hanging out the window, with the “needs service” light on. The main problem was that the lights in the room stopped working a few days in to my stay and then the ceiling started leaking. After nearly slipping in puddles, the staff told me (at nearly midnight) that my room was deemed an “emergency situation,” as the flood above me was flooded and leaking through.

Excellent location! Clean room! Small but adequate. Bathroom was clean but no fan. Shower steams the bathroom. Quiet building. Quaint and cozy lobby. Elevators were small but quick. We would stay here again. Check-in and out process was quick and easy. Great convenience store right next door. Such a great location overall!

This hotel is very old. They keep air conditioning units in windows year round, which makes for a chilly room. They also have radiators in the room that bang and make quite a bit of noise through the night while you are trying to sleep, but luckily I brought earplugs. Our toilet ran the whole time we were there, but the shower was hot and a nice size. Beds were a little small but comfortable. Elevators are small and there is only two of them. They have a nice little area with books and the front desk staff were very nice. Excellent location. Very close to Times Square and I felt safe while visiting. The only thing that really bothered me was the very strong scent in the lobby. It was like the glade plug in’s on steroids. For someone with asthma, not easy to deal with. I would stay again though.

I don’t often take the time to leave reviews, but I have to for this hotel because I don’t understand all the good ones and feel like they’re misleading. The hotel is in a great location and it’s quiet, but it’s very old and that shows. It’s pretty beat up, there’s one elevator that moves very slowly and is old so it shakes a little, and the hallways are very small. My room was adequate size for one person, but tiny by hotel standards. There’s no thermostat in the room so I couldn’t control the temperature. The only lights are lamps next to the bed. There’s no closet, but they do have a stand with hangers. The bathroom definitely showed its age and worst of all, I had NO hot water. I didn’t think anything of it when I washed up at night because it was at least warm, but the cold shower in the morning on a day that it was 30 degrees outside was maddening. The water pressure came and went too. The bed was comfortable, though a bit sunken in. There wasn’t anywhere in the bathroom to put out your things since it’s an old pedestal sink, so you had to use the nightstand or bed. Overall I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you’re just looking for a cheap place to stay in the city that’s in a great location.

The hotel seems to be in the process of updating, but the outcome so far is that it is a bit tatty and cheaply done such as fixtures, rugs, etc. in one of our rooms, there was no means to control the temperature. The hallway reeked terribly of moth balls. Location was good. It’s an old hotel and has potential, but is unfortunately being managed by someone who cares more about pinching pennies than providing comfortable accommodation.

Room was the starkest I have ever experienced! Plus, barely room to move. It was hot when I entered and no way to regulate—so went down 1 of the 2 crickity elevators to the front desk and he sent the maintenance guy up. He had to unscrew some wall unit and turn off the heat and turn on the noisiest wall/window air conditioner! I will NEVER stay here again!
