The room was clean and the staff was polite. The elevators were slow. The room wasn’t carpeted which was unusual. The bathroom was nice with the exception there was no area around the sink to place toiletries. I had to store them on the windowsill next to the toilet. There were too few power outlets and no USB ports.

The Hotel St James is obviously an old hotel but the staff were very friendly and accommodating, the room we had was a good size. It had air con in the room but it could just do with a bit of a modernisation and update. The beds were a little hard for my taste but everything we needed was there, the place was spotlessly clean and it was in an excellent location, minutes walk from Times Sq and 15 minutes from most of the major attractions in NYC. We would definitely stay here again.

Not good but not bad

Location is excellent and the hotel is safe and clean. Pretty no-frills from there. My sink didn’t drain and there was no soap in the shower. That’s the kind of experience you’re in for but it’s a great value.

Room was clean, and had adequate space. Beds were too bouncy for me. Could have used a mini fridge in the room. Older hotel so walls a bit thin. Could hear people talking and outside noise. Location was amazing and price was reasonable. I would stay here again, the minor issues listed above would not prevent me from staying there.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Offered me a VERY early check-in for a small fee which I gratefully accepted. The rooms have window A/C units - mine worked well. My room was reasonably-sized for NYC. Location was fantastic if you want to be close to, but not in, Times Square, and it’s very near Rockefeller Center and Radio City. My window blinds needed some maintenance but otherwise everything worked fine.

Excellent location but still a quiet hotel. We wished the bar on the first floor was a functioning bar! But since there was an authentic Irish bar steps away, no issues. Great old world hotel.

Fantastic stay. Was up on the 12th floor in a renovated room and it was spacious and clean. AC worked like a champ too. Love the location; so easy to Times Square and shows. Would stay here again.
