Staff were very courteous. The hotel was very run down. The elevators looked a hundred years old. Repairs were obviously needed. There was no coffee or refreshments in the room. The only ice machine was in the lobby. They put a hold on my credit card, but I don’t know what it was for, there was nothing to purchase. The rooms were painted an awful grey, white would at least brighten the place. The first night the hot water was lukewarm, so I asked to be moved to a different room where the water was hot. Despite all the crap, the staff was excellent. The 3 stars are for the staff

Super convenient location! Walkable to everything, close to times square and broadway shows, as well as Radio City music hall. Easy access to public transportation. It was loud outside, but it is NY so that is expected. Not a great view from the room on the 8th floor, but room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Shower took a while to heat up and had to have on full heat to get a good temp.

The room was spotless and spacious, staff were very friendly. Room was so quiet. You just cannot beat this location in Midtown. Rockefeller, Bryant Park and Times Square subway stations all within a few minutes walk. Basic amenities but it doesn’t matter as so many as places to eat and drink on the doorstep. If you want an excellent affordable room rate in a first class location, Hotel St James is for you. A special mention to the legendary Joey on reception who is so friendly and knowledgeable about the city. Nothing is too much trouble for Joey and he is an asset to this hotel. Thanks for another fantastic stay in NYC!!!!! 😄 the one thing I would mention is that if the AC could be a bit quieter that would be awesome.

Really cute hotel close to Times Square. Definitely an older building, the rooms could use some updating in general but overall a good no frills/budget option. They offer luggage storage as well which was hugely helpful. My only criticism is that there are no fridges in the rooms - we would have liked a fridge to store cold drinks or leftovers from dinner.

Overall clean and convenient. The heat doesn’t turn on unless it’s under 45 degrees out. The water was warm but never fully heated up to be hot water in the shower. We stayed mid November. Joey at the front desk was very nice and helpful

This place is in the best location. Although it seemed that there were a variety of room sizes and types, our room was perfect! It seemed that some rooms didn’t have windows so if that would bother you, make sure you contact the hotel staff to talk about it. The staff here though was top notch. Quick, friendly, I saw staff offering tourism advice to others there so they are helpful too! We stayed for 3 nights and had a lovely time.
