Towards the northern end of the Cape San Blas peninsula, Cape Escape, a single-level home, is located in a residential area off the main road providing a quiet retreat for visitors to escape. The 3-bedroom vacation rental sits at the end of a cul-de-sac across the street from St. Joseph Bay with views from the covered front deck. This bayside beauty is an ideal spot to bring the gang together to relax and enjoy one’s company. Just two miles from the St Joseph Peninsula State Park, jump on the bikes and explore nature at its purest form or hitch up the boat to launch in the state park (for a fee).

There is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy, with sitting areas under the house, on the front deck, and the screened deck on the back of the house. Also under the house is an enclosed outdoor shower to spray the salt away before entering. Once inside, the open living area welcomes you to kick back, it’s vacation time. Symmetrically designed, there is a kitchen, sitting area, small dining space, and the master bedroom on one side of the house and the dining area, living room, and two bedrooms on the other. The beach home accommodates a group of 8 comfortably, with a pull-out sofa available in the sitting area.

While aesthetically pleasing as the center point of the living area, unfortunately, the fireplace is not functional but provides an excellent focal point. While allowing visible sight lines from all corners of the house, it also breaks up the space into quadrants providing slight privacy.

Good Vacation

The house was great, although there wasn’t much of a bay view as advertised. The interior was imaculate open concept. Very comfortable!! Beds and all! The only issues we had with the house were the smell of the water, especially the hot water. We notified the property managers and they told us to run the hot water in the house until it ran cold to flush out the hot water tank. That pretty much remedied the smell. Also the heating element in the dryer was not working, so we had to hang our clothes outside to dry. That was really not a big issue considering how beautiful the weather was! The back of the house backs up to the island water tank/system, so no view from the back other than the big black water tank. Part of the upper deck was screened in, so that was a plus. Also, there was the constant hum of the water tank filtration system. The yard could have been mowed/maintained a little better. The back yard was a little overgrown and there is a frog pond right next to the house. It was cool to listen to the frogs singing at night, but I’m sure there were probably some snakes and other predators living there as well, which is to be expected. It wouldn’t have been very safe to hang out in the back yard, especially for young children. All in all, we had a great time and thank the owner and propert management company (who were very responsive) for allowing us to stay here!

Light the Way

We were glad for the lighted outdoor staircase when we arrived at night. The house was decorated very nicely. The light switches were somewhat confusing. The house was very clean with plenty of linens. The bath tub, being very deep, was difficult to climb into for older members of our party. (May I suggest a grab-bar beside the tub for this purpose?) Other wise the house was well appointed and had good books to read. Thanks for a good but too short stay.
