The room was very clean and comfortable, and it came with dishes and bowls—but no pots. Since the only nearby restaurant closes early, we had to drive over 20 minutes into town to buy food to cook ourselves. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize until after washing all the ingredients that pots need to be rented from the reception for NZD 10. Luckily, a kind young couple from a campervan lent us theirs, otherwise we would have gone hungry that night!
Overall, the location is not the most convenient for meals or transport, but the nearby hiking trails are truly beautiful. And if you’re brave enough, you can even head out at night to look for wild glowworms.
