The name Arthouse is due to the fact that it is centrally located between the most important museums of Dordrecht, (Dordrechts Museum, Hof van Holland Ann Kunstkerk) the Dordtse Schouwburg (Kunstmin) Arthouse Cinema (The Movies) and of course the important contribution of the famous Dordrecht artist Rein Dool in the design of the house. (Can be found in the bronze front door, the ironwork for the windows and the various works of art by him in the Arthouse.
The main entrance is is use as a small art gallery.
