I am not sure about the VIP benefits as the room we got is at the very end of the hotel a too far from Lobby and Breakfast area. Also the room we got on the first not has non working AC and we switched the rooms the next day. Both the rooms are very far from lobby.

I stayed at the Raddison San Jose for 6 nights, and overall it was a pleasant experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location was convenient, close to a Wal-Mart. While it wasn’t anything overly luxurious, it had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Would consider staying here again.

This was fine for a one night stay ahead of heading to the airport but I wouldn’t stay more than a night. The location isn’t great (although the parking lot is helpful). It’s hard to access downtown - about a 20 minute walk to the Gold Museum - and there’s not much around. The lobby and restaurant and bar are nice. The food was excellent and the staff there was nice. The room wasn’t great. The bathroom needed upgrading and a deep clean. I’m also fairly certain housekeeping entered our room without our knowledge or permission right after we checked in and had left for sightseeing to add a shower curtain because none was there.

Decent enough but a bit 'tired' and needs updating

We had asked for an accessible room but this wasn't noted on arrival though we were offered an accessible room if we were prepared to wait. As our adult daughter was having surgery the next day, we waited for it. As a silver Hotels member, we did not get our 10$ discount off food or drink. The room was large, comfortable but noisy and smelt a bit musty. From inconsiderate guests leaving in the early hours to staff wheeling noisy trolleys and even from noise from the reception area. We used both the restaurant (where there was an excellent vocalist) and bar. Food was generous and of a high standard. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We were surprised that the bar closed so early for an international hotel. The pool was small but adequate but what let it down was the amount of available sunbeds (needed more) and their poor condition. Many were broken or saggy. It was nice to have a pool bar available and although we did not use it, there was a gym and spa. The hotel felt a bit 'tired' and perhaps needs a refresh. It was busy for conferences and for a meeting place for groups with G Adventures and National Geographic.

Nicely located. A little bit run out as a facility. Dated rooms don’t bother me. Leaking shower heads and loose towel racks and soap shelves are annoying. Ditto the worn out rollers on the sliding closet doors. Also, the foam Matt on the sofa bed was cheesey and gross. The lack of linens to make up the bed was annoying, especially after paying an extra $60 per night for the third person. Front fest stafff, on all shifts, is great. Breakfast is good. The pool area is decent but some things like lamps at the walls are in disrepair.

The food was great I just wish that they could have perhaps a limited menu for room service that might be available up until 12 midnight. It's a great place to stay while traveling to other parts of the country. We stayed here and took a tour of Nicoya Island, and we were close to the bus station for our ride to Puerto Viejo. The surrounding areas aren't the safest at night but are fine during the day. It was a short walk to the Central Market and some museums. Plus, there are two pools, two bars, and a fine dining restaurant, so we didn't feel bored hanging at the hotel at night before we moved on. But, if you are wondering where you are walking to will be safe, ask the front desk! They are kind, honest, and incredibly helpful. Also, no matter the weather, wear closed-toed shoes if you are walking the streets outside!
