When I checked myself in using the door codes emailed to me (the front desk is only attended during the day), I was quickly disappointed with my room: the door wouldn't lock, the toilet wouldn't stop running, and I found some kind of stain on the mattress under the tucked sheet. I texted the 24 hour emergency number, not sure who would respond at such a late hour (it was 11pm at this point). Shortly after I sent the text, I heard back from someone named Amelia who ended up making my whole trip extraordinary. Amelia was one of the managers of the hotel and lived nearby. Despite the time of night, and the fact inches of snow were coming, she left her home to come switch me to another room. When she arrived, she was extremely apologetic, and assured me she would make sure the room would be more thoroughly inspected and cleaned for future guests. Then she moved me to the room next door, in which she had already turned the heater on, and I was delighted to find the room to be spotless and remarkably comfortable (and a corner room, no less, with two lovely windows that got abundant natural light). She also gave me some complimentary beverages. The room ended up being a lovely home during my few days in Stratford, and I would have a lovely chat with Amelia when I'd see her in the lobby. The hotel had a lovely old charm about it, with a lot of historical flair. I definitely hope to stay here again. Huge thanks to Amelia for being such a hero of the hotel!

The hotel was wonderful and I would definitely stay there again. However, the dining room was getting remodelled which I was unaware of when booking, so the breakfast was unavailable. Additionally, the hotel wasn't super prepared for the amount of snow we had so the parking area wasn't properly plowed and there was no place for our boots in the room. Still, the room was spacious and comfortable, the beds were very soft and the staff were charming and accommodating. The hotel was also in walking distance of everything we planned to see in town, which was very convenient.

The room was a too small, unable to open the bathroom door due to the bed being in the way. The elevator was broken. The front lobby under renovation. Parking was not included and was across the street and expensive. The heater in the room is old and it was either boiling hot or freezing. The TV didn't work.

The location was great. Not a lot of staff around, but friendly when they were spotted. The room was pretty good, bed comfy and nice pillows but the elevator was not working and I was on the third floor. Additionally, the hydraulics in the doors - both into the hallway from the stairs and into the room, were too strong. My room door knocked me over when I tried to open the door then reach back for my bags - not a half second pause before the heavy door closed and smacked me. The hallway door from the stairwell smashed loudly every time someone came into the hall - very loud. There were nice touches in the room - lovely glasses (not plastic) and real china coffee mugs - bonus points there.

It is a very old hotel with extremely creaky floors. We could hear everyone walking and talking on the stairs, above us, beside us and in the hall. We asked for late checkout, placed the do not disturb sign on the door, and yet, housekeeping knocked at two different times. The second time they knocked, they immediately tried to enter our room. When my husband spoke to them the second time, they were rude and told us that we had to be out by noon, when the front desk clerk had told us 12:30. We will never stay here again.
