Disappointed
We were unable to stay in this property due to a strong musty odor upon arrival. We promptly found other accommodations and let the host know that the home was unoccupied and we would not be staying. At the time, we told her we weren’t planning to leave a negative review but hoped she could assist with a partial refund.She initially stated that if the property could be rebooked, a refund was possible. However, the next day the calendar did not show the dates as available, and she failed to mention that we needed to cancel the reservation in order for the dates to open up. We were given no further instructions. By the time we figured this out and attempted to cancel, the app would no longer allow it due to being past the check-in time. VRBO advised that a refund was at the host’s discretion and said they would contact her on our behalf. The host then insisted we still needed to cancel and tell her the specific dates (which we did), but by then the opportunity to rebook had already passed for one of our nights. I questioned the host and asked how we could be accommodated since the opportunity passed for the first day to be rebooked. She declined help or any accountability for lack of instructions. She then left the message.In the end, we felt the host misrepresented her refund policy, gave unclear instructions, and ultimately disengaged from the conversation when we asked for accountability. This experience left us feeling dismissed and misled.
