The property was clean and well-maintained, which we appreciated. Staff were friendly and courteous, but there’s room for improvement in overall service. The buffet experience fell short, with inconsistent water service and table settings. Towel supply also varied during our stay, with hand towels or face cloths occasionally missing. Unfortunately, the à la carte dining didn’t offer much of an upgrade, with food quality not far off from the standard buffet fare.

It’s a tired hotel and definitely understaffed but the food options were always great and the location is unmatched. It is located in the quieter Playa Langosta but still close enough to Tamarindo for some outings.

Great for a chill time. The basic rooms are just that…so if you are just looking for a clean comfortable place to sleep because you want to lay out by the pool/beach and not think about food, this is a perfect place. If you are super bougie, you may be disappointed if you book their standard room. The spa and staff there are fabulous and do a great job.

Pleasant place for a laid back family vacation.

The Occidental Tamarindo is one of a handful of All Inclusives in Costa Rica. Keep in mind if you’re looking for a Mexican Style “let’s get wasted resort” this is not what you’re looking for. The pace is relaxed and the food at the buffets is local style. If you want steak It’s good but it’s also Not tender like American/Canadian beef. They rate the resort 4/5 stars, really what you have are rooms that would be 3’s, they are ample size comfortable and clean but they were never finished with that 5star building quality to warrant 5 stars. The service is friendly and upbeat, but also laid back. The pool is excellent as is the beach area. Great tours depart from the area and it’s a wonderful place for a great family vacation or couples trip

The only thing missing is a swim-up bar. Try the Piccadillo at breakfast. Leo on the beach can sign you up for FANTASTIC tours. Adina, who is part of the wait staff, is the absolute best. Always friendly and goes above and beyond.

Occidental Tamarindo Stay

The check in process was not the best. I arrived at 12:30pm and didn’t get a room until 430pm. Thankfully Stephanie at the front desk was able to get me a room at 430pm so I could prepare for sabbath. I got a floor on the first floor and then Stephanie was able to get me a room on a higher floor after sunset on Saturday. I was a bit surprised that as gold members I couldn’t get early check in nor could I get late checkout. The rooms weren’t very clean, in the first room, the shower pooled with water and the water didn’t drain very well. The second room it was better but the bed sheets were wrinkled and the bed wasn’t very comfortable. The food at the hotel was excellent. I really liked the food and the variety. The snacks were limitless and the beach was also nice. Amazing sunsets. The beach seemed to stretch forever close to the airport and close to activities.

There was no coffee in the room. Had to call for towel's everyday. Limited places to eat. Liquor was very cheap brands and served in cheap paper cups. Way under staffed. not enough seating by the pool. would would not recommend this resort.

The staff were great but there weren’t enough of them. Long lines at the bars (only 2 bars)-one day time bar, one evening bar. The buffet was understaffed. Often had to go and get our own water. Never had face towels or clothes in room!

This property is very average. Nothing really unique or great. We where a group of 9 people celebrating 3 birthdays. I made reservation at the a la carte and requested some special B-day cakes, but we got nothing. Also, the regular dining room didn't accommodate seating for 9 and when we arranged the tables ourselves to sit together, we got told that's not allowed. One more thing: if you're a smoker don't go to this resort

A great family atmosphere at the resort. The location of the resort is right on Langosta beach with gorgeous sunsets and crashing waves. The food is average. The drinks are average and served in paper cups so bring an insulated cup with you. The resort is very clean and the staff are very polite and hard working. The grounds are safe and the gardens are lovely. I would gladly stay at this resort again.
