Pros:** - Excellent location - Pleasant hotel environment **Cons:** - The staff is unfriendly, often responding with a firm "No" to requests without providing alternative solutions or proper explanations. No smiles, no empathy. - The WiFi in the rooms is unreliable, and the staff seems unable to resolve the issue, repeatedly insisting that it works fine in the lobby, making it feel like the problem is yours.

Shame about the dogs ...

The Sylvia is a gem .. too few hotels offer the good ole fashioned touch of class you'll find at the Sylvia. The downside is that they allow dogs in the hotel rooms, and not in dog-only rooms but in all the hotel rooms! So if you don't fancy the idea of sharing your room with a previous patron's pampered pooch then look elsewhere... Check out the YWCA Vancouver, which is a well-managed clean hotel which provides help to Vancouver's less privileged families.

Old rundown hotel that was cold and uncomfortable. The manager offered a discount and then never gave it. The restaurant is the only positive.

My stay at The Sylvia Hotel was lovely! The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant food quality and staff were excellent - music on Wednesday evening a bonus. Beautiful beach front location is awesome!

Vintage hotel with real keys and a great view

The Sylvia is a quaint, vintage hotel in a great location. We loved being right across from the beach, and that it was dog-friendly. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby and you can walk along the water for miles, accessing Stanley Park, the water taxis, and points beyond. We enjoyed the Sunday night live jazz, too! We were very happy with this choice, and will very likely return.

This was our second time staying at the Sylvia. It’s definitely older and not as fancy but it has a lot of charm, the staff is amazing and the location is unbeatable especially for the price! Would definitely recommend!
