About this property

Casa Cielo Jungle House-Private Jungle Compound On 105-Acre Cielo Ranch Reserve

Casa Cielo Jungle House is a private jungle compound located within Cielo Ranch Reserve, our 105-acre private wildlife reserve and working cattle ranch in northern Costa Rica. The entire compound is reserved exclusively for your group, giving families and friends the privacy of their own Costa Rican jungle retreat.

The compound includes three separate lodging spaces: Casa Cielo Jungle House, the Casita Loft, and the Jungalow, along with a swimming pool, outdoor entertaining areas and access to the reserve.

Casa Cielo Jungle House

The main house is a modern two-story jungle home designed around indoor-outdoor living. Large openings on the main level connect the house with the surrounding gardens, pool and outdoor spaces. Much of the home's cabinetry, furniture and woodwork was made using teak and native woods harvested from Cielo Ranch Reserve as part of our long-term sustainable forestry program. The main level includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining deck overlooking the pool, king bedroom, full bathroom, outdoor mudroom, and guest laundry room. Upstairs, the great room opens onto elevated observation decks and walkways surrounded by the forest canopy. This is one of our favorite places for morning coffee, wildlife watching, sunsets, and views toward the Arenal and Tenorio volcanoes.

The upper level also includes a spacious king master bedroom with private bathroom and partially outdoor shower, plus an additional queen bedroom and bathroom.

Casita Loft
Located beside the main house, the Casita Loft provides additional private accommodations while keeping everyone close to the group. It features a king bed on the main level, two queen beds in the loft, a full bathroom, kitchenette and living area. It's particularly well suited for a family or members of a larger group who appreciate having their own space.

The Jungalow
Our newest addition to the compound, the Jungalow offers another private sleeping space surrounded by the jungle. The Jungalow features a king bed, full bath, mini fridge and service bar, sitting areas on the front porch and elevated balcony. It provides a more intimate jungle experience while remaining part of the private Casa Cielo compound.

Pool & Outdoor Living
The swimming pool and surrounding gardens form the heart of the compound. Multiple decks provide areas for relaxing, sunbathing, and gathering together. The poolside rancho includes seating, a service area, and a refrigerator, making it an ideal place for families and groups to spend the afternoon together. There is also a poolside restroom and shower as well. The surrounding gardens are filled with tropical plants, fruit trees and forest vegetation, and wildlife regularly moves through the surrounding jungle corridor.

Rositas — Your Private Dining & Gathering Space
Also included with the compound is Rositas, our private dining and kitchen area reserved exclusively for Casa Cielo guests. Rositas gives families and groups a dedicated place to gather for meals without crowding into the main house. Daily breakfast is served here, making it a natural meeting place to start the day together before heading out to explore the reserve or on an adventure. The space includes a dining area and kitchen and can also be used for our optional dinner services. Whether you're enjoying breakfast together, planning the day's activities over Costa Rican coffee, or gathering for dinner after a day of exploring, Rositas adds another private shared space to the Casa Cielo experience. Like the rest of the compound, Rositas is for our guests only—there is no public restaurant or outside dining traffic.

Breakfast & Included Services
Daily breakfast is included with your stay. Breakfast features a small selection of traditional Costa Rican dishes and North American favorites, accompanied by fresh tropical fruit, Costa Rican coffee and tea. We also include basic daily housekeeping, trash collection, and toiletry resupply so guests can spend more time enjoying their vacation and less time taking care of the house. We can also assist with private transportation, rental cars, private guides, and tours and activities throughout the Arenal/La Fortuna and northern Costa Rica region. Additional experiences and services may include dinner service, massages, guided experiences, tree climbing, and special-event planning. Please ask us about availability and pricing.

Cielo Ranch Reserve
The real difference between Casa Cielo and a typical vacation rental is what surrounds it. Casa Cielo is located within Cielo Ranch Reserve, a 105-acre private wildlife reserve, reforestation project and working cattle ranch.
Our family purchased the former dairy farm in 2006 and began restoring the property, planting thousands of trees including native Mountain Almond—an important food source for the endangered Great Green Macaw. Nearly two decades later, the recovering forest provides habitat for an extraordinary variety of wildlife. Guests may encounter howler, white-faced and spider monkeys, sloths, toucans, Great Curassows, Great Green Macaws and many other tropical birds and animals. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but discovering what appears each day is part of living in the jungle. Private trails lead through areas of secondary and primary forest, reforestation projects, wetlands, and along the Pataste River. Because these trails are located within the reserve and are primarily for our guests, they offer a very different experience from visiting a crowded national park.

Experience the Working Ranch
Cielo Ranch Reserve is also a working cattle ranch. Depending on the day's ranch activities, guests may have opportunities to see the cattle, milk cows, and participate in daily farm activities taking place around the reserve. It's especially memorable for families traveling with children and gives guests a glimpse of rural Costa Rican life that most visitors never experience.

A Different Kind of Costa Rica Vacation
Casa Cielo isn't designed to feel like a resort. It's for travelers who want privacy, nature, wildlife and space to reconnect with family and friends, while still having comfortable accommodations, a swimming pool, breakfast, housekeeping and personalized help planning their Costa Rica vacation. You can spend the day exploring Arenal and La Fortuna—or stay right here, walk into the forest, watch monkeys from the house, enjoy the pool and experience the rhythms of life on a private Costa Rican reserve.

Breakfast was amazing everyday at Rosita’s. Pauls attention to detail and excursion planning made everything easy. My daughter (5) got to help milk the cows before breakfast. The pool was clean and with beautiful views.

Amazing place and service on all levels

Beautiful home both in terms of design..cleanliness and the amazing grounds. The hosts were so helpful and accomodating also. They made planning excursions..restaurant suggestions so easy. The on site meals were also delicious if you wanted meals there. The location was close enough to all excursions and town..but remote enough to feel relaxed and uncrowded. I cant recommend this place enough..would choose it over a hotel any day. Paul the host went above and beyond. Book this place!

Our time here was pure magic! I cannot say enough about how incredible this property is. Secluded and private, it feels like your own jungle paradise. We loved wandering the beautiful trails and floating in the pool overlooking the trees. The amazing setting was second to the incredible hospitality we received from Paul and Rosie! To come to a place and feel so welcomed and cared for was such a unexpected surprise. The meals were delicious and the conversations even better. Having your own onsite private restaurant was such a treat. Paul was so helpful in planning activities and car rental and it truly made the experience stress free. It’s not often a place leaves an imprint on your heart but I can say that for us, this one truly did. We will definitely be back someday!

Amazing amazing amazing

Paul and the team and the best in the area. If you are thinking of staying in Fortuna, take a few extra minutes and drive a little further north to paradise in the mountains. The rooms, the amenities and the scenery are a 10! We ate at the private restaurant every night and we were happy we did. Rosita’s restaurant is amazing and we would recommend eating there at every opportunity. Thank you Paul, Rosie and Bill for the great stay. Blessings.

Friends and family fun vacation

Our stay at Cielo ranch exceeded our expectations. The hosts are lovely people who helped us book activities in surrounding areas, made us excellent food, and showed us their farm. We didn’t want to leave. The kids had fun in the pool and the entire residence is wonderfully designed and beautiful. Waking up to sounds of birds and frogs was a highlight as well as seeing a variety of birds on the property. Thanks very much!

Truly Ideal

Just back from 6 nights at Casa Cielo. This is truly a one-of-a-kind property. There were 12 in our group aged 6 to 75. Roughly 175 acres of trails, ponds and lakes to explore. We planted trees with Paul and his dad, fished in the lake, drove the 4x4 roads with Paul's dogs riding in back or running alongside. Gourmet breakfast every morning at the private Rosy's Restaurant was amazing. We also had dinner there 4 of the 6 nights we stayed. Paul handled all tour reservations for all of us and there were zero issues. Even last-minute add-ons were taken care of no problem. Each morning, he would text me a driving plan for the day's activities to keep us on the best roads. Spending time with Paul and his dad, you quickly see they have such a strong connection and love for the land and creatures. Thank you Paul, Bill and Rosy, we wouldn't have changed a thing about our trip!

Beyond even our highest expectations!

Cielo Ranch is much more than a place to stay - it's an entire experience. The home itself is immaculate - clean and spacious and thoughtfully appointed at every turn. We truly felt like we were living amidst the rainforest AND staying at a luxury retreat at the same time. The architecture blurs the line between inside and out, probably my favorite feature of this home. The abundance of gathering spaces for our group of seven meant that we enjoyed a new vista each day. Rosita's, the property's very own private restaurant, was our favorite of those spaces. Our charming host and wildly versatile chef, Rosita, served up a menu curated to please any palate (from three to sixty years old in our group!). Just a one-minute's walk from our bedroom, we enjoyed warm hospitality, wildlife viewing, and cuisine that rivals any high-end restaurant. The reserve itself is a marvel. We took advantage of the well-marked and maintained trails starting and ending right at the home. The variety of flora and fauna easily exceeded that which we experienced at the nearby national park. Paul and Rosita are experienced hosts, and it shows. Paul's warm and knowledgeable hospitality had us feeling like we were staying at a good friend's place. Our curious and social group loved meeting the family and enjoyed having hosts to field our questions and share stories. Truly, this property encompassed everything we hoped to enjoy in Costa Rica, and took the spot as my all-time favorite vacation property.

Private Resort Setting - Wildlife, Peace & Fantastic Food

Cielo Ranch Reserve is like a private resort!! We stayed at this amazing property over Christmas and are so thankful that we did!! Our stay with Paul, Rosy, Stef and Luke was absolutely our favorite of the trip!! Rosy takes such pride in her care of the property and her Michelin-star level cooking!!! Paul designed and constructed the modern, efficient buildings, pools and spaces on property with great attention to detail. The plumbing allows for flushable bathroom tissue and the showers have fantastic water pressure. The beds are the best that we have stayed in during our three week stint in Costa Rica! Details that are typically only seen in resorts are the number of pillows per bed, air conditioning , daily room refresh and complimentary breakfast!! You MUST try Rosy’s French toast (home-made bread and syrup). The patios allow for bird and animal watching and Paul is great at pointing out wildlife as well as assisting with bookings and recommendations. We watched toucans, aracari and oropendola feasting on fruit 10-15 feet from us. Paul’s passion for reforestation and education is helping to restore the habitats of wildlife—especially the green macaw. Take advantage of the hiking trails! Archie, Gigi and Bernardo, the greeting committee of pups, made our stay extra warm! Bill and Joann, Paul’s parents, also contributed a lot to our stay with conversation, information and were just wonderful! We are grateful for such an amazing experience! We will definitely return!
