The only downside to our stay at the royal hotel was the single glazed windows should be double glazed because the noise from the bars and clubs nearby unacceptable especially between midnight to 3am
Otherwise our stay was lovely

Room was fine albeit very squeaky floor boards, was a good size and had a sea view. Very low water pressure so shower not the best. You check in at the bar in the pub. We didn’t see anyone at reception during our stay, just a sign sending you to the bar. We only had one towel for the entire stay, room not made up at any point and by the time we returned on the second night the pub was closed so we couldn’t request one. We didn’t use the restaurant as the pub was empty most of the time and not somewhere we wanted to eat. The soap in the bathroom was in small plastic bottle in a wall mounted dispenser, didn’t look refillable and were made in Holland! Not eco friendly for such a large pub group. Not sure where the four star rating comes from!
Didnt get off to a good start, having to pay £10 parking overnight.
Bedroom was supposedly a superior with a sea view. It was very tired carpet worn with holes. Nothing Grand about this hotel

Disliked: Amenities
Entrance to hotel was problematic with revolving doors and had to make several visits through as luggage couldn't pass through .
No Entertainment for such a large hotel on weekends was disappointing , also the bar was limited on what they had to offer - No Guinness - No Stella , had to settle for a beer. Door to our room was very unsafe - one nudge and it would fly open .
On a better note the Breakfast was ok .

Chloe the barmaid was a great host who kept us entertained when we returned to the hotel in the evening.
The dinner was unexpectedly delicious and the breakfast pretty good.
We were definitely one of the younger people staying there but the location was amazing.
It's an old property so you must take that into consideration.... Can't expect it to be modern. We had,an updated sea view room which was v nice.

Check in was easy. Staff very helpful. Good bed.nice position, easy parking. Breakfast was good. We were 'upgraded' to a front sea view room. However, the window was draughty, paper pealing in places, bath panel desperately needs replacing. The worst was the floor boards creaked so much every time you walked on them. I felt sorry for anyone in the room below us. Great looking hotel though.
Great location and views. Staff all very helpful and friendly but the fabric of the building, decor, beds etc all in serious need of replacements. Could be fabulous but not without some serious investment.

Stayed by myself on the way to Cornwall following flying in from the USA, staff were great, breakfast was good and room was clean and comfortable- all I wanted from a quick stop over
Very sad that such a beautiful building has been allowed to become so run down. You are greeted by beds full of weeds outside the front and a very dated reception area. The wallpaper is peeling off along the corridors, and the paintwork is all chipped. The room was a good size but dirty. Medication from the previous guests was still on the floor. Apart from a tiny shelf, there is nowhere in the bathroom to put anything, so you land up putting your toilet bag on the floor which was certainly not clean. The shower was good but the riser rail soap tray above eye level. Staff were lovely, but for the price we paid it was very disappointing.
Lovely hotel near the train station. Splendid patio and dining room.
