Well poor scores im afraid the staff were amazing very professional and helpful from there it went downhill. Room was shabby at best bedding was clean the rest not so very tired decor and furnishings The doir locked but didn't close properly you could daylight all around the door and some idiot had left the old lock on the door. Every doir shutting people chatting people walking down the corridor all heard in the room. Paid goid money i earned yo give it away should of stopped at premier or travel lodge. Never had Bfast as the cost is obscene went down the road got full english plus tea half price. Sorry not for me never again

Time for a refurb

The Royal Hotel is now very run down, beds are lumpy and old, very noisy in the corridors, lights on all night inside and outside of the building, the restaurant closed at 8pm even though they advertise last orders at 8.45. No room service and £3.50 for a bottle of water. I left at 5am as I couldn't sleep with the noise and lights. I'm afraid I won't be staying again

I have stayed in the Royal several times over the years because it has an excellent situation in Weston and is always reliable. Changes from my previous stay were mainly around the breakfast, they offered a buffet-style this time rather than a wait-to-table. Maybe this was due to the days (Monday and Tuesday) but the quality was still very good. My single room was starting to get a bit shabby and faced into town, rather than the sea front. I also noticed that the floors in my room sloped in towards the door between the en-suite and the bedroom, often catching me unawares and feeling like I was on a ship at sea. Finally the Royal has warning signs in all the bathrooms I've stayed in there which mention the very hot water, believe them.

Basic and functional

This is a place to stay when you need to stay somewhere cheap. It's basic and functional. The staff were friendly and that helped a lot. The beds were lumpy and the duvet was not fully enclosed by there cover, because the cover was too short. The pillows were lumpy. I couldn't work out the lighting, it was hot and miss, some switches probably didn't work. The WiFi was very patchy, so wouldn't recommend working from hotel. The bathroom was clean and the shower was really good, lots of pressure. Location is great, close to sea front. I stayed 1 night, that was enough.

Good for a short break

Such a great location and free parking is a massive plus. Weston Super Mare is a quiet and friendly town. All the staff at the hotel were pleasant and professional.

Okay stay at a reasonable price

I booked this hotel very last minute just for a short impromptu break. I mostly picked it for location and that it had a good mix of low cost and reasonable reviews. It worked perfectly well for the stay. The room was a good size and had all the things you might expect. It did seem to be pretty hot even with the radiators switched off. The windows would open, but it was quite noisy outside when that was the case (my room pointed out to the front with the Italian gardens and various pubs, also the hotel was hosting a Christmas event on one of the nights). The décor did seem a bit tired in places, but it was all clean. I didn't try food or drink. Very convenient for the sea, shopping and various restaurants.

As we were stuck in Weston Super Mare due to the Red Storm warning and my boyfriends trains were cancelled, it would have been nice to check in early and not have to walk around town until 3 pm and we could actually check in. Also note the lack of plugs in the room, so had to unplug the TV and lamp just to charge our mobile phones.
