Whangamatā is around 1.5 hours from Auckland, Hamilton, or Tauranga and is one of New Zealand’s most popular coastal towns. Enjoy fantastic surf and swimming beaches, take a kayak tour to Donut Island, or hike to the beautiful Wentworth Falls. The town offers great cafés, shops, and plenty of local charm.
A short drive away, Opoutere Beach and its Coastal Bird Reserve are worth a visit, or grab your paddleboard and explore the calm estuary waters.
