*NO CLEANING FEE! The Historic Farmhouse was built in the 19th century and has been beautifully restored and lovingly adorned by Paul and Fabiana Lehmann with all the modern luxuries you could ever desire. Surrounded by mountain ranges and old oak trees, this home sits on a quiet, scenic byway, one of the last remaining original gravel roadbeds in North Carolina. You will enjoy peaceful mornings and evenings filled with wildlife, but you're still just 2 minutes outside of downtown Banner Elk. Now, imagine yourself rocking on the front porch chairs, iced tea and/or book in hand. This very spot is where James Wilburn Whitehead, a determined pioneer who arrived in 1872 with "a gun, two hogs, and a dog" would once look out over the hundreds of acres that he owned. You will be experiencing the same timeless beauty and tranquility that drew settlers here over a century ago.

But what truly makes The Historic Farmhouse special are the connections you can make with our little farm animal family. Wake up to the sound of the birds chirping, and then head across the street to collect fresh eggs from “The Ladies” for breakfast. Visit our horse Dusty in the large field, who gallops over when he’s called and will kindly request treats. Our adorable goats BamBam and Molly are always eager to accept a gentle pet or a tasty nibble of fresh grass too! We are offering you an authentic, interactive farm experience that connects you to the land's rich agricultural past and creates one of a kind memories for guests of all ages.

You and your loved ones may gather around the fire pit in the backyard for starlit conversations or spooky stories and s'mores. The huge master suite is a sanctuary in itself, featuring a private sitting area, a garden tub with a view for a relaxing soak, and a luxurious three function shower. You will surely enjoy the warmth and comfort of heated floors. For those special times of year like Thanksgiving and Christmas, we decorate to ensure your holiday stay is filled with extra magic and cheer. You're also just 10 minutes from Sugar and Beech Mountain ski resorts, or you can even enjoy an epic sledding hill right outside your front door. We even have a lovely local chef available upon request for home cooked meals and catering. Toys are also available for children.

The restoration of The Historic Farmhouse has been a true labor of love for the Lehmann family, as Paul himself grew up making childhood memories within its very walls. The Historic Preservation Foundation of North Carolina has even recognized our extreme dedication to bringing The Farmhouse's unique character and history back to life. We are honored and very excited to share this especially unforgettable farm experience with you. It would be selfish to keep it all to ourselves!

This is not a place to stay, this is an experience, and a most amazing one at that! We pulled up to the property you could audibly hear all of our jaws collectively drop. The front porch, the walkways, the screened entrance on the side...just wow! You enter this home and time warped back to the late 1800's. The history inside was amazing. We got lost and turned around going up and down the 2 staircases. We stayed here with our daughter and grandkids, 8 year and 3. If you like playing Hide and Seek...this is the place? There are 2 gorgeous gas fireplaces that work off of remote controls. Our grandson was "convinced" he had magic powers to turn them on and off (as his sister giggled in the background operating the remote, lol). We roasted s'mores up the hill at the fire pit. We walked across "the turnpike" to visit the chickens and play with the goats. Chilled hung on the rockers next to the antique wagon. Found fresh eggs in the coop and had them for breakfast...yum! You have to read the book they leave for you, about the property history of 140 years, then also go check out the family cemetery. We felt like the luckiest people to have found this hidden treasure! Not to mention the luxurious beds and bedding (it really was amazing). Paul and wife, Fabiana (and she really is such a kind human...I was lucky enough to meet her the morning we left as she came by to feed the farm, as they say)...they were such kind hosts. 20/10. We will absolutely be back!

Beautiful historic home that’s super cozy and inviting. The updates they’ve done provide modern amenities yet you feel like you could be back in time with the stone fireplace and log cabin walls. The soak tub in the master bedroom with views of the woods was one of my favorite parts. Highly recommend this place!

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home. Loved the history and all the preserved pieces of this farmhouse but also enjoyed the garden tub and other amenities!! We had 3 generations and was glad for a first floor bedroom. This home is in the valley and not far at all from Banner Elk, therefore, you do not escape road noise. You even get to watch airplanes take off if you are lucky all while watching deer. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Perfect family spot

We had such an amazing time at the farmhouse! Everything was comfortable, clean and beautiful. From the large soaking tub overlooking the tranquility of the mountains to the comfy beds, we had such a great time our kids didn’t want to leave. It’s the perfect location to go to Beech mountain and take advantage of the free sledding hill. We’ll be back :)

The History home in Banner Elk offers the best of both worlds - a peaceful, nature-filled retreat with easy access to all the charm of the town. Nestled in a quiet area just a couple miles from downtown Banner Elk, this home provides the perfect balance of seclusion and convenience. The home itself is absolutely stunning, with beautifully decorated bedrooms, living spaces, and dining room. The outdoor area is just as lovely, with a serene landscape, seating area, and grill perfect for enjoying the mountain air. My family especially enjoyed visiting the animals on the nearby farm - it was a real treat for our kids. During our stay, we had an amazing time. The house was spotless and our hosts, Fabiana and Paul, were incredibly responsive and available whenever we needed them. They clearly take great pride in sharing their beautiful home. Exceptional

The house is beautiful and comfortable. It had everything we needed and we enjoyed cooking, relaxing and venturing off. The property and the walks we took visiting the animals and the scenery was so enjoyable. The host(s) could not be more accommodating. Each room is impeccable and the history of the home and land. We saw turkeys and deer in the mornings as each room has a scenic view. You are literally 4 mins from town so convenient, and we we’re comfortable dropping our boys off at Sugar Mountain for full day ski sets. We can’t wait to come back and share this trip with our friends. We are refreshed and recharged.

Wonderful historic house!

We absolutely loved our weekend at the farm house! The house was cozy and provided a very relaxing and peaceful environment. It was also clean and had a well equipped kitchen. The highlight for my kids was the horse, goats, dog, and chickens. We fed them everyday and the chickens provided two eggs for breakfast! That was a fun experience for my 7 and 9 year old. The house is 5 minutes from downtown Banner Elk, and we enjoyed the Banner Elk Cafe and walking around town. The owners are responsive and live nearby. We had a delightful conversation with Ms. Lehman about the history of the house and the personalities of their farm animals. We will definitely come back!

Mountain Trip

My family goes to Banner Elk every year for vacation in the fall, this is the best home we’ve stayed at! It has all the characteristics of an old home, with all the comforts of a new home and everything is high end. My daughter loved being able to feed the animals each day and walking the property. Magical

This property really is a jewel. It was immaculately clean, well furnished, and very comfortable in all respects. So no places perfect, this one comes pretty close. Dusty, the horse, Arlo, the guard dog, and the two goats with the chickens really made this place a joy for my grandchildren. Checking for eggs, feeding carrots to the goat and just give an Arlo a great big head rub brought more joy to them than any amusement park. The view from the fire pit up the hill, and the surrounding grounds really made this a relaxing trip. Add the fall colors, and I can safely say that this was probably one of the most picturesque, peaceful, and enjoyable stays I have ever had. I'm not exaggerating. This is a very cool place. I appreciate what the owners have done and what they have provided.

Charming historic farmhouse

Pictures do not do this place justice! So much historic charm in this delightful farmhouse. Cute farmhouse décor abounds with modern conveniences tastefully mixed in. Comfy beds; spotlessly clean house. Master bath is spectacular. Remote control gas fireplaces in the dining room and living room are the bomb! All the basics in the kitchen. Choice of cute dishware. Keurig with regular coffee supplies is a nice touch. Lovely views from every window. Windows in the bedrooms don't have curtains as (see pictures) which are not needed for privacy as other houses are far enough away, but you might want to bring sleep masks if you are disturbed by morning light. Sitting room off master bedroom provides a quiet 2nd space to work or relax. Well located between skiing at Beech and Sugar. Can't wait to go back!

Beautifully remodeled historic farmhouse in picturesque setting

This house exceeds expectations. The owners (who are extremely supportive) have done a wonderful job of maintaining the historic features of this unique house (which was the original house in the area and used to belong to the owner of the valley and the mountains surrounding it) while updating it to ensure that it is a very comfortable place to stay for a couple or an extended family. Overall, an amazing experience!

The place was awesome and so convenient to banner elk...the gravel was not good for at least our motorcycle...gravel a little loose, for the motorcycle likes.. I would love to stay again. This place was nice to stay for this length...The host were great and if I needed anything they were just a phone call away..all things needed were at the location. Equipped with several things I would have at my house...
