We had a disappointing experience at Casa Lit. Upon arrival, we were unexpectedly asked to pay an additional fee. The fee should be included prior. The surrounding area felt unsafe, especially at night, and we quickly realized we should have done more research beforehand. The hotel is located directly beside a supportive housing facility for individuals experiencing homelessness and substance use issues, which impacted our comfort during the stay.
The rooms were hostel-style and did not reflect the price point—over $200 CAD per night. The alley beside the property had a strong odor of urine, which added to the overall unpleasant environment. The pool was also a letdown: very small, barely accommodating three people at once, despite promotional photos suggesting it was much larger. We also came across an article claiming the patio was one of the best in Barcelona, which was far from our experience.
We voiced our concerns to management and requested to cancel our reservation, as the hotel did not match what was advertised. Unfortunately, they refused and offered no compensation. In hindsight, there were better hotel options in the area at a more reasonable price. On a positive note, the front desk staff were friendly and polite. We also asked Expedia to help us get a refund so we could book elsewhere, but they were unable to support as they were declined by the hotel as well.
